I know half of the VMK'ers probably hate me by now, but if you want to show that you care for your pet I suggest you continue reading. This winter you may buy plants such as poinsettias, holly, or mistletoe. Sure, there's not wrong with that- unless you have pets. Many household plants are toxic to all types of pets, including dogs, cats, hamsters, rabbits and much more. For a complete list, click here. Thanks for reading, and Happy Holidays!

A few Holiday plants that are dangerous:
Mistletoe- berries
Poinsettia- entire plant
Holly- berries

I'll remember this, even though we don't usually buy plants.

HATE YOU?!?!?!!? HAH, THATS A GOOD ONE! why on earth would you suspect everyone hates you. even if they do (i know for a fact not EVERYONE hates you) you still have me and VMK Magical Ladee and all your other friends :) i found this information extremely useful, considering the fact that, i too, love animals and have:
- a dog
- maybe about 5 cats
- 6 hamsters, they multiplied ;)
- 3 birds
- beta fish
- wild deer that "visit" now and then
- wild turkeys " " " " "
- other wilderness creatures from our "backyard woods"

thank you. i never even though these plants could cause an animal to be ill. :)

Aww, nobody hates you...
I love that you care about animals so much like I do.
Anyways, thanks for the information. [Although my parents don't usually buy these plants...]

Please don't forget the dangers of ice melt, anti-freeze and chocolate. Ice melt can cause contact irritation and may make some pets sick if they lick it off their feet. Anti-freeze is especially toxic and if not treated right away is generally fatal. By the time a pet starts showing symptoms, it's too late to start treatment and almost always die. Chocolate can be fatal and even in non lethal doses it can cause severe vomiting, diarrhea and seizures.

If you'e having house guests or a traveling with a pet, remember that not every one is used to pet-proofing. Remind visitors to keep all medication out of reach of pets (and small children.)

Have a happy and safe holiday season!

MHL, mom to more fuzzkids than most people would consider sane.....

Thank you.

I posted this onto the UK Community board too. :)

Yes that was a very good post. A lot of people do not know that poinsettas are posions to animals. I only found out a few years ago. Fortnunately non of my dogs or cats ate any. But now now poinsettas are allowed in our house. They were giving free poinsettas out at sear by DH said no to having one. Too risky and we would never forgive ourselves if something happened.

:) Bumpitay!
By the way, there iss a gardening item called chocomulch which has traces of the same ingredients as in actual chocolate. Watch out, because dogs and cats are likely to eat some of it.
