KB Homes - any recent experiences?

We are considering KB Homes as a builder and have been researching. Plenty of bad reviews for homes built a few years ago, but not much lately and JD Powers has them highly ranked in all categories for this year (#2 or #3 in our area in all categories), so it looks like they've pretty much turned things around.

Any DISers have a KB Home? Care to share your experiences with the whole process?

Hi there,

We have a KB home and love it. We bought our house 7 years ago and haven't had any issues with it at all. Just your normal wear and tear things have had to be replaced. When we bought the house, we didn't have to upgrade a whole lot, we did the carpet and the pad, and added a fireplace and air conditioner. The one thing that I don't like is the bathroom, but we knew that going into the house. we could have upgraded the bathroom but didn't.

I love my KBHome. We had it built 2 years ago and its still great. We did some upgrading but thats because I kindof knew specific things I wanted but I could have been ok with the choices in their basics. Be prepared for tons of choices when you go to the design studio. DH and I spent many days there wondering around trying to make decisions. However everytime I'm there I love my choices.

Let me know if you have any specific questions. I do know that the standards are different based on the area so you may have to upgrade more or less depending on what your standard is. For example I live in Cary and some things that were standard for my house my MIL had to upgrade to in her house in Mooresville. She also has a KBHome and another co-worker has one too.

KB Homes has a pretty good reputation in North Carolina...I'm not so sure about the rest of the country.

We had our house built a few years ago. Other than the usual wear and tear, we haven't had anything major. (knock on wood)
My biggest peice of advice is to KEEP the binder they give you and keep your contact numbers up to date!
