Day 2—Thursday, August 14, 2003

Cast of Characters
Me (Karen)—The planner of the trip and family Disney nut.
Linda—My older sister
Michael—My brother-in-law
Rob—My 12 year old nephew
Catie—My 10 year old niece

We decided to let the kids sleep late after a long day of travelling the day before. My sister took advantage of the late morning to do some laundry. The laundry room at the Polynesian was small. There was always a line of people waiting for a washing machine.

We were finally ready to head to Disney-MGM Studios at 11:30, and the skies opened up into a downpour. We waited for the rain to slow and made a dash for the bus stop.

When we arrived at MGM, we grabbed Fast Passes for the Rock ‘N Roller Coaster, and road on the Great Movie ride. We then headed over to Star Tours and got in line. The wait time said 25 minutes, but we wound up waiting 50 minutes. This was the first of several times that the wait times were a lot more than the posted time. We grabbed a light lunch at the MGM Commissary.

After lunch, we grabbed Fast Passes for the Tower of Terror, and road on the Rock ‘N Roller Coaster. Rob and Catie loved the ride. They couldn’t wait to ride it again, but we were pressed for time, so that would have to wait for another day. We went on the Tower of Terror, and the kids love that. I really love the experience on the ride now that they’ve added more special effects and drops. I like it almost as much as Splash Mountain.

At 4:20, we went to Hollywood and Vine for our priority seating for a Fantasmic dinner package. The food at Hollywood & Vine was tasty, and the selection was good. I really liked the salad selection, especially the southwestern caesar salad and the potato salad with blue cheese. My one complaint about Hollywood & Vine was there were so many tables crowded against the wall next to the windows that it made it difficult to get in and out when we wanted to go up for more food. They also squeezed five of us into a table for four, so we barely had room for our plates and cups.

As we finished dinner, the skies opened up again. We waited a few minutes for the rain to slow, and ran off to Who Wants to Be A Millionaire. The kids had a blast. They loved playing along, even when they didn’t know the answer.

By the time we got out of Millionaire, the rain had stopped. We popped into the One Man’s Dream exhibit. We all loved looking at all the artifacts and memorabilia. The movie was really interesting, and even I learned a few things about Walt that I didn’t know before.

We then headed to get our seats for Fantasmic. Thankfully, the rain stayed away, and we were able to watch the show. I absolutely love this show. It’s really one of the best shows on Disney property.

After the show, we went back to the Polynesian. Michael and I did a grocery store run while Linda took the kids to the pool. The grocery store run took forever—it took a half hour to drive to Goodings, and it was frustrating to pay the Goodings prices for food. I didn’t buy anything, but Michael spent about $50 on groceries that would have cost $30 anywhere else.
