We hadn't been to WDW in @4 years so I was more than surprised when we went to ride Kali and the center console part was side open with no place for bags. Luckily we had trash bags in our backpacks so we wrapped up and were good to go but wanted to put this out there. I know those compartments were not the best but they at least did a little something. Those boat floors and seats were soaked when we got in!

We went in September of 2015 and they had them and then when we went back in June of 2016 they were gone. We were luck that we put all of our stuff in the lockers before we went on the ride. The lockers I think are free for the first 90 minutes I think. I liked having the cover piece because I could put my feet under it so they wouldn't get as wet. I don't like when my shoes get wet.

I didn't even look at that lockers or anything bc I "knew" how this ride worked since we'd ridden at least 10 times on 4 previous trips LOL. Kept seeing the "You will get wet" warning signs but didn't even read them LOL

I've heard part of the reason was that animals would get in there overnight and be unable to get out, only to be found in the morning.

I believe they tested the lockers months ago instead of putting bags in the center..so appearantly they have decided to stick with the lockers. I did used to use the center console in 2011. I haven't read up on if the locker process at the ride is smoother than USO but I sure hope so.

We were surprised to see them gone as well and stuck our bag between us under a poncho (that we only had because a dear lady handed it to us as we were getting on and of course we passed it off as well! Wonder how long it was passed on that day!!). Luckily we weren't the ones to get drenched on the ride that time!

Only thing I used it for was to sneakily take off my shoes and put them in there once I got on so that they didn't get wet.

I noticed this as well however the last time I rode I used free lockers that were located near the exit of Kali. I don't recall exactly how they worked but I remember putting basically everything from my bag to my car keys in the locker expecting to get completely soaked. I'm interested in how this system will work during a busier time of year because from my recollection there were not that many lockers available.

We needed three lockers for all of our stuff the day before Thanksgiving, and there were plenty of lockers available. Didn't have any issues with the lockers at all.

Familyfirstimer, where did you place the garbage bags? Is there still a place in the middle you can use, even though is will not protect from the water?

There are plenty of lockers. The only potential hurdle I can see is we have gone to use them once and found the computer system down (imagine that, a computer issue at Disney!) and the lockers were unavailable. We don't carry much in the parks so it wasn't a big problem to just bring it on the ride with us. That has only happened 1 time though so I don't think it's a common problem.

Oh gosh, that would be a big problem for me with my camera! I would have to skip the ride.

I never thought about the lockers being tied into their IT systems. Yikes!

The free lockers are free unless you intend to leave your stuff in there all day. If you decide to do that, you will have to have a credit card to get your stuff out of your locker and will pay the money you would have had to for a regular locker. For Kali River Rapids, the lockers are to the left and slightly up from the entrance (I think). I always forget about them as my husband and I carry minimal things and really never used the center bag area anyway but we will take a locker now and it's quick and easy.

As it was stated, it happened one time only. I wouldn't be overly concerned about it happening again. And I would think a person with an expensive camera would have things available to protect it from unforeseen circumstances. Kind of confused on that.

I have things to protect my camera from rain and occasional splash on Pirates, or even Splash Mountain. But only a fool would take a chance with a nice camera on Kali without a couple layers of protection.

My family always brings poncho's in case of rain, and we just put our bags under there. We like to keep ours with us and find this easier!
