Kali River Rapids "incident" today

Every time Emergency Services is dispatched to a major WDW attraction (regardless of the reason or severity) it always ends up on the media, the local Orlando media LOVES reporting any chance possible where the word "accident" or "emergency" can be used in the same sentence as Disney, it has always been like this.. Based on the story and facts presented this appears to have been a very MINOR incident, the standard procedure on WDW attractions is to call emergency services if a moving ride vehicle (in this case a moving water raft) cannot be safely returned to an unloading point without human assistance.

Well, I guess if you have to get stuck on a ride, this isn't a bad one. The woman on the left side of the photo (wearing sunglasses with her arms raised) looks resigned and little bored. I can think of much worse ones! Saw some photos of people being walked down the very steep incline on EE - that would be awful for me because of my fear of heights!

Or being stuck on Small World and getting that song stuck in your head - now that would be terrible! :)

Well that explains the 80 minute wait time when it reopened. We waited for 30 minutes in the fast pass lane. I feel bad for the people stuck out in the sun on the rafts.

I remember one trip in Disneyland we were on Grizzly River Run ( DCA version of Kali River Rapids) and we saw in the distance California Screamin - a tall coaster - stuck on the uphill climb. We watched people get walked off...and I was terrified I hate heights too !!

The picture in the story linked to in the OP is from an Instagram account. They credit her Instagram name. She has a public account. In another picture she says they were "rescued" right before the drop. They had no idea what was wrong but had to wait 30 minutes to get out.

it went down 3 minutes before our fp+ slot. we eventually made our way back about 2 hours later and even though they scanned our fast passes there was only one line, which was super bogus- the standby line was empty, aside from groups of people using it as an exit.. we waited a really long time and i was really annoyed. not a fan of fp+.

As long as you don't get stuck where you are getting continuously soaked! I had a friend who got stuck on IASW for I think 30-45 minutes! Needless to say, it takes a lot for her to get back on that ride.

We were evacuated out a side door at Test Track once - from the FP line. When we got outside we could see a family stuck on the part of the outside track where it curves around and tilts all the way to one side ....

I wonder why it needed to be drained.

It could be due to the brain-eating amoeba. Maybe they didn't want the guests to touch the water and get infected.

That's why they won't let you swim in Bay Lake or 7 Seas Lagoon. It's not the alligators that are dangerous, it's the brain eating amoeba.

That dream was my nightmare in 1998. Almost 2 hours we were stuck and listening to that MUSIC..... you know they don't turn it off. I can't even walk by let alone ride it. Theme park stress disorder.......TPSD....... Thinking about this makes me queezy to this day.

Doubt it was that also doubt they drained the ride since that's a lot of water to g61st rod of and then re fill. Most likely just turned off the pumps.

Also the amoeba lives in the mud in still water around 18 inches deep a belive. Not an issue at Kali.

The article has none of those words you mentioned. They called it a malfunction and it is 50 words long, hardly even a report, if they really LOVED getting into it, they would write up more than that. And why should the media not report on something at a major employer and economic force in the area? Isn't that their job? It is as you said, a major attraction.

This is more of a case where someone sought out and then posted a small article for all to see. The person posting was looking harder than most would to let people know. I watched the news last night and didn't see it mentioned at all.

Two hours?? Why did it take so long I wonder? And they left the music on? I like that ride for the few minutes you are on it but that is a nightmare
