Justine & Adam 4-21-12 SBP/LSS/SCP--Updated 9/30

Okay, first, pet stuff: I love that you keep a space in your house for a foster dog. :lovestruc I hope to do that someday when I have more room!

Now, TR stuff: AK sounds like a good day; and I am so glad you were able to get an O'hana reservation for everyone together!

Your PS sounds great too. The frosting was definitely the best part, at least for me! And the tropical ensemble will be fantastic--- definitely a good choice. The dogs in the scuba gear also sounds adorable! Can't wait to hear more!

Just catching up! Everything is looking great!! And I LOVE that cake serving set! And your cake idea will be so cute!!!
Can't wait to read more!!

Lol, oops! I meant almond--I'll fix it :surfweb:

I will try to work on part 2 of the PS tonight!

I'm soooo behind, but just got caught up!! Your foster dog is adorable!! I love that you can do that and work with them!! Your tree looks great too!!

Your planning session looked fun!! That's one thing that I reallllllly wanted to do, but it all worked out for the best! I'm glad Ohana got you in!! It's always a great time there!!

Sorry we didn't get time to meet up---it all went by quickly and like a blur!! We didn't really stick to much of the plan that I came up with, lol!!

Oh... and the BCV lobby smells just like Green Clover and Aloe from Bath and Body Works!! It's only available on their big sales--but I always grab some spray and spray it around :)

I'm sorry we didn't get to meet up too! Like you said, once we got there is flew by like crazy. Oh, thanks for the tip on the scent! Its so wonderful, I will have to stock up.

Ok, so I have a shameful secret….I didn’t realize that Jana’s husband was coming with her to meet us for the PS. Now, of course he wasn’t interested in the first half, but who wouldn’t want to go to the menu tasting? So, we just showed up with 4 instead of the 3 people who I signed up for. Well, it turns out that Pamela’s baby was sick so she wasn’t able to be there for our tasting. This sucked, but what can you do? Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches and they gave us a lovely intern named Katie to go with us, along with Vita from that morning. They pulled one car around and then realized we had 4 guests instead of 3, but they didn’t say a thing. They just went and got a bigger vehicle and we all headed over to the EPCOT kitchens. It was the last few days of the Food and Wine Festival, so it was pretty crazy in the kitchen, but they had a nice set up for us and the two chefs we had were so nice!

We had a hard time picking out stuff to taste. But we started with a salad of “Boston bibb lettuce” and I had them add edible flowers because I think they’re pretty. Now, I’m not the biggest salad fan, but this was delicious! It came with some scrumptious shrimp on top which we were not expecting. We all loved it. Oh, since Mark was unexpectedly along for the ride I made him the official picture taker and he took his duties very seriously!

Oh, and we chose the bird of paradise napkin fold. We thought it fit the tropical theme well.

Next up main dishes: We wanted a dish similar to the famous Jiko filet with mac and cheese. We all loved the steak and the mac and cheese, so this is definitely making it on the menu along with the salad. We also really liked the plating because the dish containing the oh so delicious mac and cheese kind of looks like a fish.

The second main dish was bacon wrapped scallops with a barbeque sauce and roasted potatoes. The scallops were so yummy, but Adam and I felt like the bacon was not adding to the flavor and kind of ruining the fresh, clean taste. So we decided to do just the scallops—no bacon. The roasted potatoes were fine, but nothing to write home about. The group decided they would rather have mashed potatoes—fine by me. We decided to have the same veggies (carrots and green beans) with each main dish.

Last up for main dishes was a trio of tuna medallions. I LOVE tuna, but this was overcooked and dry. No one was really impressed. I’m used to eating my tuna on the rare side and I know not everyone likes it that way, so I think it would be a hard thing to cook it to where the majority of people would enjoy it. Oh, and the green log is wasabi. I added a second sheet to the tasting checklist with flavors we like and dislike as well things that must be avoided at all costs (mainly cilantro and copious amounts of onions and peppers). I think Adam thought the wasabi was guacamole and he almost had a nuclear meltdown at the table after eating a sizable dollop. He held it together it well.

So, our dessert party is over at Sago Cay but I still wanted to try a few desserts. We aren’t really doing standard stuff at our DP so I figured they could always just pass the recipe along. They made as some caramelized bananas with ice cream similar to what we would get with the banana flambé action station. Very yummy and refreshing!

bananas.jpg

They made us not one, but two types of bread pudding. They were both so yummy, but the one with chocolate chips sprinkled on the top won out. It was all Adam and I could do to not sit there and eat both large dishes and then lick the plate.

And for fun I asked for the slipper dessert. Turns out the actual dessert part is the little chocolate teardrop—tasty. Of course you can eat the slipper too although, it’s hard to do so gracefully. There’s a lot of wow factor, but it’s so pricey and I guess I don’t see the point if you are having cake.

At the end they gave us our little whisks and we went back over to the GF and we said goodbye to Jana and Mark. Overall thought on the PS: It was a lot of fun and I felt like we ironed out a lot of details. I wish that Pamela could have been there for the whole thing just for continuity’s sake and so I could ask any follow up questions. I did send her an email the next day with my additional thoughts on the tasting and a few follow questions. Up next: we top of the PS day with Mickey’s Very Merry X-mas Party!!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!! I love your PJ, it is so detailed in a comfortable (not crazy OCD) way....lol

Your pre-rsvps is a lifesaver idea for me!! We are a year out (yesterday was exactly one year) from our DFTW day and I had the same communication fears!

I am also changing dresses, I agree that a lighter reception dress (esp in Disney) will be a blessing!! Are you going to change to flats for your reception?

Once again just wanted to say I am enjoying your PJ and cannot wait to hear more about your planning!!

P.S...your animals are adorable. We are getting a family pet for Christmas and can't wait to go pick him/her out!

Oh, your PS looks great! Yummy yummy!!! I'm sorry you didn't like all of the food though.

And I agree: the chocolate slipper is SO pretty, but it's mostly just presentation. Good choices!

Justine,

Your planning session and tasting look fabulous. Our tasting will be in the Epcot kitchen too, so I was very excited to see that part. I agree with you, the slipper dessert is adorable, but not worth the price, IMO.

Thanks for following along! Sometimes I feel like no one really reads this, but I like having it for me. I remember when I read PJs like crazy, I always liked the detailed ones.

I think I will probably still do a small heel when I change dresses. I'm pretty short (5'2") so I liked to have some extra height. I can't wait to hear about what type of pet you get for Christmas!!

I'm actually really glad we tried it at the tasting and didn't like it, rather than the day of! We had a great (and yummy) time!

You'll love the tasting. It was so neat to see inside the kitchen. At one point they brought the single biggest piece of meat I had ever seen. I had to restrain myself and Adam from not running over and attacking it like a wild beast, lol.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled trip report for this breaking news: my floral beo is here. Ok, I’ve actually had it for a little while. I just have to say that Elizabeth Sutton is a totally awesome, efficient machine! Seriously, when we met her she totally got what I wanted (I’m sure the multiple pics I brought helped). She gave me no grief about using an outside person for my personal floral. She also had my beo back in a week.

We wanted to swag the railings outside SBP with ribbon and we couldn't figure out which three colors to use, so she mailed me samples of the 4 we were thinking about it and this was super helpful. I was also really grateful for Jana’s help in this part. She pointed out that I’m not really a “bow” person, so we decided to go for small clusters at the ends of the swagging instead of bows. I was VERY happy with the amount of the proposal! Without further ado:

Our DP is not on here. I asked about doing paper lanterns in the trees at Sago Cay and she had to check into that for me. She did get back and say it was possible. I’m waiting to get our main beo back before I decide to add those. I’m not doing any other décor for my DP, because I don’t think it needs it. The basic black linens and whatever they throw on the table for free are fine with me!

I loved the comment about the huge hunk of meat! That would be a serious temptation for us too. :)

Wow, fabulous job on the floral! Can't wait to see it all come together. Sounds like it will be beautiful.

I am with you on the decor for the DP. Whatever they provide is just fine. We may do the gel cylinder thingies, but that is it. No one is ever going to notice anything else.

Okay, now that my semester is over I have some time to read some PJs that I've been meaning to look at for awhile! :) Here are my comments on everything you've done:

* I love your proposal story and your ring! I think it's especially cool that he hired a photographer to capture the moment, that's really special.
* I'm excited to read about a Living Seas wedding!
* Your pets are adorable - I love your cat, the look on his face is hilarious!
* I LOVE the collage you made toward the beginning with all of your thoughts - the colors are just bright and fantastic.
* Your ceremony dress is gorgeous and absolutely perfect for you!
* I think St. Lucia would make a great honeymoon spot. I've never been there but the pictures are stunning.
* Your reception dress was a great find! It's awesome that you got that dress for such a good deal and it looks so good on you.
* Your STDs are so cute and I think they work perfectly with your theme and the vibe you are going for!
* You mentioned MixBook - I love them too! We used that website to create our guest book and it came out fantastic!
* I love your DF's wedding ring and how well it matches your e-ring.
* I know it was a few months ago now but I'm glad that getting your wisdom teeth out is over and done with! I had mine out last year and it was awful for me. I couldn't eat anything for about 5 days and my mouth also felt numb for about a week. It was really unpleasant but at least now it's over!
* Your food and cake choices from your PS sound delicious - I'm hungry now!

Aw, thanks for all the nice things you wrote! I'm glad you're following along...

Ur BEO is pretty low compared 2 others but it all sounds great :thumbsup2

I'm happy with the price...I wonder if its because the flowers I chose are so "Florida"...they are pretty much always in season there and they are pretty hearty flowers too.

Ok, back to the TR which I will try to wrap up in short order. The night of our PS we went to MVMCP. We had attended the party once before back in 2006 (I think) and we had a great time. It was a little chilly that night and I was glad I wore jeans and a long sleeved tshirt—I probably could have benefitted from a jacket too, but oh well! I didn’t think the party was too crowded and we rode a few rides, saw all the shows, and the fireworks. We also had our pic made with Santa!

The next day we slept in a bit before heading over to DHS. This felt good, but put a damper on our plans because that park seemed crazy busy. We rode the new Star Tours and Tower of Terror and then left. That night we had ressies at the Rose and Crown. We got a great seat out on the patio—we could literally feel the heat from the fireworks. It was a good meal!

The next morning was my hair and makeup trial. I had Rosie from Beaute Speciale. She showed up right on time ( 8 am). I showed her some pics and she got straight to work. Adam hung around a bit and then left. I put some Jimmy Buffett on the ipod and enjoyed letting someone make me pretty! Rosie is very chatty and so sweet. I really felt comfortable with her and we talked throughout most of the appointment. I’m excited that she’ll be there again on the big day. I really like the way it turned out…I’ve decided that I want more volume/height on the top. I don’t think I will change anything about the make-up besides maybe adding some false eyelashes. The look held up well throughout the day; which included lots of walking around outside.

Before--yikes!:

Like I said--I want bigger/taller hair on the day of, but otherwise I really liked it.

The next day we had made reservations to try Cape May Café for breakfast because we thought it would be a great place to have our rehearsal meal. I’m so happy we made this reservation at the last minute because we hated it! The food was fine, but it was so load and chaotic. Everything we had read online said that it was pretty quiet and laidback and maybe we were just there at a bad time or busy day, but there’s no way I’m having my rehearsal meal there. Adam is actually even more opposed to it than I am, so it was a good $50 investment to find out we didn’t like it. Just to clarify—the restaurant was fine, clean, and the food was alright, its just not what we are looking for. We still haven’t made a decision on where to have the rehearsal meal. We’re waiting to get out BEO back and if we can afford it we’ll do a rehearsal breakfast at the Attic. If not—we’ll figure out something, I’m sure, lol.

The next day was my birthday! Adam told me the day before that he had booked us the Keys to the Kingdom tour as a surprise! He only told me the day before, because we had to cancel our tequila tasting—which I later made up for by having my own impromptu tasting. We got to the MK early, I guess around 9 am. Our tour guide was so nice and enthusiastic—we stopped by guest services and let them know what a good job he did. We got to behind the scenes a lot of different places (saw parade floats, the back of Splash Mtn, the utlidors, etc). It was a lot of fun and I would definitely recommend it! Lunch was included and we ate at the Columbia Harbor house—it was tasty. The tour lasted until around 2 or so—It was a long tour, but well paced. We hung around the MK a little longer and then went back to the room. I booked us a Narcossee’s reservation, which I had really been looking forward to, but there was still so much we hadn’t tried at the FWF that I decided to forget the dinner and just eat around the world showcase some more. I’m really glad we did that. It was so fun and we got to try stuff we just don’t see much of around here. We stopped by the tequila bar and I had a tequila flight and we shared chips and queso (very yummy). About 9 or so we decided to head over and catch Wishes at the MK and then we spent a little more time at the MK (it’s my favorite park) before finally heading home.

It was a great vacation! I’m so glad we were able to take a whole week off. It had actually been a little over a year since we had taken and actual vacation and we really needed it. Now, I’m just so excited to take two full weeks off in April!! I hope you all enjoyed the TR.

Looks like such a fun trip!

* Love the Christmas party pictures, I can't wait to go someday!
* Your hair looks great! Your make-up came out really nicely too, I think it is a perfect look for you.
* That backstage tour sounds awesome! I'm thinking about doing a tour on my next trip and trying to decide which one, so that's a real possibility :)

Awww it looks like you guys had so much fun. I'm glad you spent $50 to realize that Cape May wasn't for you! Definitely worth it. And I'm glad to hear you liked Keys to the Kingdom: we're doing it on our honeymoon, and I can't wait!!

Also, your hair and makeup looks so pretty. You're going to be such a purty bride. :goodvibes
