Do kids that are raised in homes at or near the poverty level experience lots of allergies and asthma problems? I see so many kids who are raised in more affluent homes with allergies and asthma. I was just wondering if it was because there were more opportunities for the antibacterials in wealthier homes that might have an effect on how kids get illnesses.

From what I have seen they do have just as many allergies and asthma problems.

I worked in a tutoring program in Baltimore City when I was in college and our students were from inner city elementary schools, and all of the kids' families had incomes at or below the poverty level. Out of the 50 kids we serviced on the days I worked, a handful of them had asthma. We didn't require health forms or anything so I don't know the exact number, but we would have several kids miss days each semester because of asthma related illnesses, including hospitalization. I know that at least 2 also had pet allergies, but again, not sure how many others. I would say that out of the 50 kids, about 6 had asthma, but again, that number could be higher since I'm sure some kids had asthma but simply didn't get sick from it on tutoring days.

Do you work in a drs office? If yes - it's probably just that the wealthy are more likely to seek treatment.
