I've been a doctor for a long time and have heard all kinds of excuses for why someone missed their appointment, didn't take their meds, didn't go for tests I ordered, etc.
Just when I think I've heard them all, someone comes up with something to top them.
A patient came in who I hadn't seen for some time. When I asked why it has been so long, the patient replied, "Once it gets hot, I don't go out much." Sounds reasonable, except it is now mid-June and 80 degrees and the last time the patient came to see me was in April of 2005, 14 months ago!
And before you get the flamethrower out, I know there are many reasons why people don't go to the doctor - cost, fear, transportation issues, family issues, etc. And we try our best to help with those whenever possible. But I can't help but find an excuse like this humorous.
