It is by Al Lutz on miceage and I thought it summed up the differences between Disneyland and Disneyworld very well.

"There's an answer the old timers at Disney like to give when asked to compare the Anaheim and Orlando main parks, and to me it still applies as to how they are currently run: Disneyland is a park designed by a father for his daughters, while the Magic Kingdom is designed by a committee for the hordes."

I can't wait till I get to go back. We have been there two years in a row after six visits to Disneyworld. I love California. It's sad that I probably won't be back till after they refurb California Adventure though. Till then!!!

Thanks for that!! Never been to WDW, and lucky to live so close to the land, which I think I would prefer.

Growing up I had always been led to believe by the media that WDW was far better. So I've always wanted to go but never have. Since I've come here I have been given a whole new perspective and come to realize that both have their charms. I still can't wait to go to WDW someday, but in the meantime I'm happy at DL. :flower3:

I love that quote and thanks for sharing it. I've grown up in Texas, pretty much right in the middle of the 2 locations. I heard stories of DL from my parents who went with my siblings before I was born in the early '60's. We never went after I was born. I also had the impression most of my life that WDW is the place to go if you want to go to a Disney park so I pretty much bought into it. However, I've never been. I have those TV images etched in my brain of Peter, Jan, Greg, Marsha, Alice, etc. running the relay getting those "supposed" blueprints back to their dad, Mike after they left them on a ride (IASW?). Sorry for the Brady Bunch reference but my point is that I always had a desire to go to DL even though friends and most people I know have always gone to WDW. Something inside me said I wanted to go to the original place. So, in 2006, we made our first ever trip. And, as expected, we were immediately hooked. Since then and counting my 2 solo trips, I've made 7 trips (21 days total). My family is so happy when we are in DL. Nothing else to explain it other than the magic I suppose. My screen name on these boards is no coincidence. I'm nostalgic for a lot of reasons but being a dad at DL is almost as much fun as being a child at DL. :goodvibes

I love that quote! As far as I'm concerned...there's never been a sequel made that's been better than the original. :thumbsup2

Thank you for sharing that quotation. I've been to WDW twice and Disneyland many times, and feel the same way. Disneyland is quaint and WDW is...I don't know, it just doesn't feel the same. It doesn't feel warm and homey to me.

Funny, I saw someone here who was obviously a WDW person talk about her horrible experiences in Disneyland, and how she wouldn't be visiting the West Coast again. I thought, "Wow! I feel that same way about WDW!" We had such poor service, and I don't feel the need to go again. Our kids noticed it too, and said if we ever go on a Disney cruise again, they'd rather just be on the boat and skip the parks. They do not say that same thing about Disneyland.

I guess what you are used to is what's most comfortable, yes?

Personally, I'll always choose the land over the world!

The quote in my sig has always been my opinion of the 2 parks. And dob't forget the real horde is the monkeys in suits that inhabit the Disney Headquarters in Burbank, California.

I have the blessing to live 20 minutes from Disneyland, I have grown up near it and gone so many times it feels like home. Every time I go to WDW, I enjoy it, but miss Disneyland. There are no quaint corners to explore in WDW, just miles of pavement. When I get asked which park I like better, I always say ," Disneyland," and people gasp. But , to me Disneyland is Walt Disney's vision.
I suppose there will always be WDW & Disneyland people.

Don't mean to rain on your parade but....

The family takes a vacation to King's Island in "The Cincinnati Kids" (25:13) so that Mike can present some blueprints to an interested client--but when he only has a half hour and discovers that his blueprints are missing, what is he going to do?

Well, that's a big oops! Can someone explain to me why the heck I remembered that episode as being in DL??? I've apparently officially lost my mind. Oh well, it's not the first time I've made myself look like a dufus! I'm getting quite good at it.......

I dont really have any desire at all to go to WDW. It just seems too overwhemling. I'd rather go to DLP actually, if I wasnt going to go to DL. :thumbsup2

I find the merits in both - Roy did have final say on the Magic Kingdom, but as he always proclaimed - he was just the money man. He didn't have the forsight, vision, and the creative touch of Walt. That, to me explains the difference.

I love the intimate feel of DL also, and wouldn't trade Walt's touch for anything.

That being said - one of the most initimate (small and cozy) feelings I have ever had in a Disney park was walking clockwise around the World Showcase by myself in Epcot one night - after Illuminations in the winter off season - when it was pouring down rain. It amazed me as to how comforting such a big area could feel. I seemed like it was just me and my umbrella. They were already clearing the WS, and I had to wait for the drawbridge (between China and the African Outpost) to lower, since they were putting the Illuminations barges away. Since guests exit from the Interational Gateway, no one questions why you are still in the area and it is a wonderful experience. :grouphug:

Here's how I rank the Disney parks I've been to...favorite to least favorite...

Disneyland Park
Animal Kingdom
Epcot
WDW's Magic Kingdom
California Adventure
MGM (Hollywood Studios)

Sometimes I switch around Epcot, Magic Kingdom and DCA. They probably tie.

MGM is by far the worst Disney park. It has a couple good rides and that's it. I didn't like the theming much at all.

That is a GREAT quote!! Thank You for sharing it. I've never done any park but DL and DCA, I love DL. It's just got this feeling about it...I want to do the cruise and do WDW as well but if I never get to I'll be happy because I made a lot of trips and memories at DL over the past 2 years. Hopefully we can make more memories and more trips in our future but DL is always my first choice of theme parks.

My whacky theory:

You're from Texas. Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington was used in the intro of the Banana Splits show. Many people think the amusement park scenes in the original Banana Splits series were filmed at Kings Island (they were in fact filmed at Coney Island park in Cincinnati). The Banana Splits were shown riding on the Runaway Mine Train rollercoasters, Log Flumes, Bumper Cars, Merry-Go-Rounds, and many other rides. Those rides are similar to Disneyland rides. Banana Splits and the Brady Bunch look alike. :teacher:
