Just want to verify... Can you get your own bags and still ride DME bus???

Hubby actaully enjoys getting our luggage. He likes to know that we have everything. It would drive him crazy to let anyone else "handle" this. I posted earlier and someone said just don't put on your DME tags, get your own bags and then find DME counter. Is this correct. I still want a free ride to Dis because its like $50 or more to get there by cab. Has anyone else done this or planning to do this??? Thanks

I'm curious too. My DH and I both feel the way you're DH does, we'd want to make sure we had everything before we left the airport.

What type of vehicle is used for ME?

I'll bet they'd discourage this probably because there is not enough room for luggage multiplied by the x amount of people being transported...but would like to know too.

I registered with DME and was sent the luggage tags but I did ask about getting our own luggage. We arrive late into MCO so we wouldn't be able to get bags until the next morning at best. They told me it was fine to pick up our own luggage and then go to the desk. They use big busses - like tour busses-- to take you to your hotel.

I guess the question is do you need to call DME and give them all your arrival stuff? I would think that woiuld help. They told me that if we got the luggage tags but wanted to pick up our own luggage just to not put the tags on it.

I think our plan now is to pick up one of our checked bags and perhaps leave another one for the DME service to deliver the next morning. We will also have carry-on bags and I'll try to put the pj's and stuff we need but we have 2 small children and a TON of medical supplies that have to travel on the plane with us so there is only so much I can carry!

Yes you absolutely can and many people do. Just don't put the yellow tags on your bags, gather them off the luggage carousel and bring them with you to check in at the ME counter. We just got back yesterday and did this. I did get our ME packet in time for our trip, but really didn't want to worry about getting our bags in time for bed (landed at 6:30 pm and wanted to unpack and get to bed 'early'). They have lots of room under the huge buses and they will load your bags for you. We flew SW and it was SO easy to just get our bags and hop on the elevator and hop off right at the ME area that I don't think that we will ever use the luggage delivery part of the service.

Lorix2... They are large, nice tour buses with ceiling mounted video screens that they show a Disney vacation video and they even have a small bathroom.

jjan, thanks for the info :)

I was at MHT last night watching the planes come in after dropping off some friends about 6:30, probably saw you land :wave2:
