I am sure she can go, but would you take a just turned 2 yo on the ride? I remember it being pretty bumpy. Of course, DH would hold her..tightly...otherwise she'd want to hop off and join the animals! :)

We went in December 2004, one month after my DS turned 2. It was bumpy but between DH & I, I never felt nervous. And I am a very nervous mommy, as my DH often reminds me. ;)

BTW, DS really enjoyed this ride. He likes to look at pictures of the animals from the ride.

The only thing I'm afriad of is she'll pitch a fit to get off and want to be with the animals! When my older DD was that age we took her to the National Zoo in D.C. and literally had to be carried across my DH's arms (raging 2 yo tantrum-she's a redhead :) ) because she couldn't join the ducks on their afternoon swim!

We went in mid-May with our 17 months old and I sort of remember the driver CM said all the kids have to sit down in a seat so my child was sitting between my husband and I. No lap sitting. My little girl really enjoyed the ride and seeing the animals.

We had our 14-month old on it last October, and she sat on my dh's lap. If there is, indeed, a rule against it, apparantly it's not one that all CM's enforce. :confused3

Is the safari ride really a must-do? I keep reading to do this first but I have a bad back and try to skip the rides where I might get jarred. Is it truly the highlight of AK?

I think your 2 year old should be okay. We took dd on KS on her 2nd birthday and it was one of the highlights of our trip. It is a little bumpy, but we just hold onto her tightly. She doesn't like to sit very long, we can rarely eat at sit down restaurants with her, but we just kept pointing out all of the animals and talking to her about the safari and she was fine. I have never heard about the no lap-sitting rule, as we have been to AK about 10 times in the past few months and dd has always sat on our laps to get a better view of the savannahs.

My friends took their 3 1/2 month old son (held in Daddy's arms, of course), and he fell asleep. So it can't be that bad.

There is absolutely no rule against small children sitting on laps in order to see better during the Safari ride...in fact I encourage it as part of my safety spiel :)
On the other hand, children standing in laps or on the seats, children being lifted and held in the air (think: Rafiki/baby Simba ;) ), children being passed back and forth along the row from one side to the other, children standing or walking along the floor in the vehicle....is not allowed :bitelip:

Our 2.5 yo did fine, and we saw plenty of younger children on the ride. All were either sleeping or enjoying the sights! I'd give it a try.
