While leaving the grocery store a little bit ago, I almost hit a woman. I was parked between 2 bigger vehicles and I couldn't see around them. I was slowly inching my way out and next thing I know there is a woman there and I immediately braked and she moved out of the way, but I never saw her until I was out further. She just stared at me and kept going. Never been so afraid before.

:scared1: I bet you WERE freaked by that close call  Thank God you were paying attention.

I hate when I get stuck between two huge vehicles for that exact reason. Sometimes it is just IMPOSSIBLE for us to see and this is when pedestrians need to help us out by doing something as simple as paying attention!

I am just so glad that we saw eachother at the same time. Boy did I get a dirty look though.

I feel for you. I drive a Ford Focus and I try not to park in between 2 large SUV's, but you can't stop them from parking next to you. I do wish people understood you just can't see when you are parked next to those tanks! LOL! I inch out too and have had close calls and dirty looks and horns honking, but you just can't see! Just keep inching, that's what I do.

That's why I keep harping on my kids that cars can't always see you and even if you have the right away it doesn't help it not hurt when you are laying on the ground!!! That they need to be aware of what all the cars around them are doing, especially in lots. I can't believe the amount of people who just let their kids go in parking lots and run behind cars and across the "road" in front of the stores.

I don't have a big vehicle either and I feel for you, it is so hard to see around the huge things, all you can do is creep! I have had a few close calls myself.

Wow! I back out slowly, but grateful for my backup warning system. A bell sounds and a light comes on if someone suddenly walks behind me. Handy dandy for parellal and back in parking as well!

Yikes! Glad you were okay! It is really hard to see when you are parked next to two large vehicles. :thumbsup2

I make it a habit of honking as I am creeping out. As a pedistrian in a parking lot, I also don't try to walk so close to the cars, I like to see the backs of the cars to see if reverse lights are on.

Thank you for all your remarks. I know it happens, but still leaves you feeling funny. I agree that we need to inch out, but as a pedestrian, don't walk too close to vehicles. I like the idea of honking as I back out. I will do that from now on.

I had this happen to me and the guy took his cane to my car.
I was more pissed than freaked out at the time.

Even in my small SUV, I can't see through the big ones. Add a quiet hybrid into that mix and peds just don't hear the car! I really inch back. My sisters prefer street parking and I can see why. (I have a helluva time parallel parking!)

I got a new car last summer, and you know how careful you are at first when you get something new! I started parking way out in no man's land so that no one would be parking next to me and ding my doors. Wal-Mart is famous for dinged doors. ;) I also figured it was good for me to walk a bit further. I'm so in the habit of doing it now that I look for the outer spaces wherever I go. Sometimes I think I'm crazy when it's 99 degrees, but I really don't mind it. I never thought about the safety aspect, but I guess that's another plus! I'm never in between anything!

My SUV is big, and gets in the way, so I try and park away from everyone else when I am in a parking lot. Good thing everyone is ok, even though it shakes you up a bit.

This has happened to me more than once. I'm a very careful driver, and I inch out slowly, but I find people just don't watch where they are going. :sad2: Pedestrians DO have the right of way, but they still have to be responsible!

I was more than halfway out of a parking spot once, when a woman wasn't watching where she was going and walked into my path. THANK GOD I looked in my rear view mirror and slammed on the brakes, because I came within an inch of her. She was ranting and raving that I hit her! I was so angry...she took no responsibility at all!!

Oh, and once, as I was going through an intersection on a green light, a guy came out of nowhere on his bike (on the sidewalk!!!) and HIT ME!! Luckily, I was entering a residential area and was driving slowly, so he was not hurt, but I have never been so scared in my entire life. Not only was he riding illegally on the sidewalk, but he crossed without stopping, against the green light, and HE HAD NO BRAKES on his bike! What a moron!!! He left a scratch on my car, and left me literally shaking, as he rode away.

It really could have been so much worse....and I would have had to live with that for the rest of my life. :sad2:
