A palm frond apparently blown loose by gusty winds at Disneyland scraped a 17-year-old girl's neck on the Jungle Cruise ride Wednesday, officials said.

The girl was not believed to be seriously injured by the saw-toothed frond, but firefighters took her to Western Medical Center to be checked out, according to Maria Sabol of the Anaheim Fire Department.

The accident was reported at 12:40 p.m.

The frond's "fall was broken by the boat rail," but it scraped her neck, Sabol said.

The winds are back again.....

Ouch! Guess we'll all have to look out for falling palm fronds while on the Jungle Cruise!! Glad to hear it was nothing serious!

yeah, we have nasty winds today. It's supposed to continue for a couple of days too. Bring your hardhats!

Fortunately, the roof of the Jungle Cruise boat broke the fall of the frond so the girl wasn't hit with the full impact. Unfortunately, she was slightly injured (cut or graze on her cheek, from what I understand). Poor girl. I hope DL made it up to her.

It was pretty windy in Anaheim and in the parks today.

Mist was blowing from the Screamin' launch LIMs, across the pier, and I was feeling it hit me in the Single Rider queue this afternoon... :)

I am glad she wasn't cut or seriously hurt.
