Just saw the Magic go out to sea

Isn’t Symphony of the sea is the one that had that glass incident today that almost fell on a passenger? Hopefully that crew member that moved that is getting a good raise.

The glass fell yesterday. I have no idea what happened but it was a lot of glass and they had to close one of the pools to drain it and part of deck around it. It happened after lunch yesterday and everything was reopened first thing this morning. I was told no one got hurt by both the crew and some guests that witnessed it.

You can find lots of videos of the incident on TikTok- a crew member literally just moved people out of the way just in time. Very lucky no one got hurt.

DIS “veteran” (of 3 years) posting in the cruise forum and has never seen a Disney cruise ship? This smells a lot like trolling.
I’m not trolling I love WDW but have not been on a Disney cruise or seen their ships before. I live in New England so the ships aren’t hanging around up there.

I believe you but I’m not really sure what the goal was in posting that you don’t think DCL ships look pretty. Were you just looking for confirmation that Royal was the better choice for you? (Which honestly, it probably is based on how you like to cruise.)

That said, I do think it’s a little ironic to criticize the look of a DCL ship when the Royal ship you’re sailing on just had a major incident. That glass panel breaking wasn’t minor. It was a massive piece, and things could have gone very differently. Royal was incredibly lucky no one was seriously hurt.

There was no ‘goal’ that is an odd thing to say. People aren’t allowed to have opinions and share them on a message board? Just about every post I read has someone’s opinion in it. Or is my opinion just not allowed because it is different?

I think it is ok for people to like different things. That is what makes the world go around. I never criticized anyone who takes a Disney cruise I simply stated I thought the ship was unattractive and showing her age.

I have not taken a Disney cruise for a variety of reasons (price, lack of variety in ports, and lack of dining options would be the three big ones for me) and none have anything to do with how the ship looks. I have stated I don’t think the ship I’m on is attractive but it checked the boxes for this trip.

I also didn’t like the grand Floridian when stayed there but love boardwalk. Lots of people love the Grand and don’t like the Boardwalk. I don’t argue with them when they say they don’t like boardwalk. That is why they have different resorts.

What a weird comparison. I can’t think something is unattractive because the ship I was on had an accident? Accidents happen on ships and in life. They handled it well and that is what matters. I’m sure over the years there have accidents on Disney and unlike a recent Disney cruises the plumbing isn’t raining in the ship I’m on.

I am not looking for anyone to say what is a better choice for me. I also only said what ship I was on when asked and have not compared anything.

Agreed. A non-DCL cruiser coming onto a DCL board to spread negativity is uncalled for. I would never go onto the forum of a cruise line I had never sailed and criticize one of their ships.

Wow! How is what I said spreading negativity? The sensitivity is wild here!

I did not mean to upset anyone. I was just surprised because of how people here talk about the ships and sometimes when you hear a lot about something you have very high possibly unreasonable expectations. Maybe that was the case for me.

I guess some people cant handle opinions that don't align with theirs. I appreciate a different perspective from someone not wearing Mickey glasses. People do get defensive for whatever reason. It's almost like your attacking their first born child. Reality check it's just a ship.

Port Canaveral is a long way from Disney World. I'm guessing there's a lot of people that have been to WDW many times over the years and have never seen a Disney ship up close. I used to one of them.

Maybe I was off base trying to guess your motives. You're right, I don't know your thought process. But it did strike me as an odd choice to spend part of your vacation on a ship you're presumably enjoying just to come to a Disney focused board and post about how you saw a Disney ship and thought it looked unattractive.

Personally, I’ve never been on a cruise and felt compelled to post about another ship I saw in passing that I didn’t like. I'm normally too busy enjoying my own trip. But that’s just me.

You're absolutely correct that all ships have issues. I only pointed out the irony of commenting negatively on a Disney ship when the one you’re currently on had a pretty major incident of its own. And while I agree the plumbing issue on the Magic wasn’t great or well handled (I’ve shared my thoughts on that elsewhere, DCL dropped the ball on that big time), at least it didn’t involve passengers nearly getting injured.

There’s a big difference, in my view, between offering an opinion based on firsthand experience, like staying at the Grand Floridian or Boardwalk, and saying something based on passing by on a bus. But again, that’s just how I see it.

For what it’s worth, we’ve cruised Royal and enjoyed it. I’d sail them again if the price and ship were right, but I’m a Disney adult at heart. For lines I haven't sailed on like MSC and Princess I really have no opinion just because I saw the ship at port but again that is me.

Also, I kind of hope the mods don't close this thread. No one’s breaking rules. The discussion just didn’t go the way you may have expected.

I’m a big Disney fan, but I’ve never been on Disney cruise. And I’ve also never seen a Disney cruise ship in person. I’ve been lurking around the DCL board, because I’m considering a cruise next year. I’ve only cruised on Royal, so I’m trying to learn as much as I can about DCL. I do appreciate having a variety of viewpoints, so I can be realistic in my expectations.

If you look at my posts I regularly post here and have posted on several other threads since being on vacation.

I have no agenda and I’m a huge Disney fan. I was so excited to finally see what you all talk about and probably because of the hype I was expecting more, that is all.

I don’t think one should be called a troll (more than once) for having an opinion. That is harsh and uncalled for. I never said anything about who chooses to sail on Disney and never compared it another ship, others on this thread did. I said I didn’t like the design of the ship (my opinion), it looks old (it is) and it needs a paint job. It’s a ship, I’m not sure why people are taking this personally.

When I visit the NCL or Royal boards on cruise critic I want to read all reviews and opinions negative and positive. If only positive opinions are allowed then the forum is just a big waste of time.

I have seen ships docked in port that I thought looked great and others that looked like a rusty old ship. How a ship looks on the outside does sway my opinion.

I can only see one post where a person speculated you were a troll.
