My mom took DD to buy her some Crocs -- and ended up buying her a new outfit and jammies and just took her on to their house to spend the night, so DH and I had an unexpected night off.

We went to see Poseidon and it was pretty darn good!! Not fine, Oscar-award-winning acting, but the special effects were awesome and it was just a good, old-fashioned summer disaster movie. I told DH husband I didn't need to walk on the treadmill tonight since I felt like I'd been running for an hour and a half! :rolleyes2

And here's a Smilie for Kurt Russell :firefight !

Anyone else seen it? What did you think?

I just saw it. My kids made me take them, and I'll admit I was pleasantly surprised. The effects were great and the rest of the movie was better than expected.

I don't want to post any spoilers, but I will say I was disappointed that they killed off my two favorite characters.

:thumbsup2 I found myself holding my breath like I was swimming several times. DH kept nudging me __ I kept hiding my face in his shoulder and eventually just drew my knees up in my chair to hide my eyes. :rolleyes2 What a dork.

So is the plot identical to the original?

There was an original?? :confused3 Just kidding!!! I haven't seen it. We'll have to rent it.

Not identical, just loosely based upon the same concept.

Posiendon Adventure was better according to my mom. Her and my son went and she said she liked P.A. better. Not going to see it.JUst think some things shouldnt be remade or redone or losely based on certain movies. (IE Towering Inferno, Posiendon Adventure, King Kong)

Oh we just got back from seeing Poseidon too. I don't get some of the bad reviews from the critics. This was a GOOD movie. I mean it had me on the edge of my seat. DH joked and said we need to go for a drink after this movie :lmao: . We felt like we were trying to survive. This movie gets 2 thumbs up from me!! I defintely recommend it :thumbsup2 !

We went to see it this afternoon. Definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. We are frequent cruisers and it had my heart beating fast. I work part time as a travel agent and I told DH that this movie won't be good for business. If I had never cruised before, you wouldn't be able to get me on a ship after watching this movie! It was a good movie though.

I've never seen the first one but we'll be renting it soon, I'm sure.

I saw the original as a kid and it scared me to death!I dont think I'll go see this one-I can only imagine how the special effects have improved since the 70's version and Im not sure I want to experience it.

No way am I going to see this movie! I had a nightmare while I was on painkillers recently that was so vivid after seeing a commercial for the movie. In it I was seperated from my dh and my children. I still get chills thinking about it. I loved the first movie when I was younger, but now I guess disaster movies just aren't in the cards for me.

Just had to say that once while cruising on Norwegian and in an inside cabin, the original Poseidon was playing on the TV. I could not beleive it. Not the best choice of movies to run on a cruise ship!!

We still chuuckle about that one. :goodvibes

Some actress on an interview last night was saying how when she was on a cruise, they were showing "Titanic"! :rotfl: Again, not the best choice of movies for a cruise. :rolleyes1

I'm so glad to hear these good reviews! DH keeps sending me all these bad reviews, but I don't care. I want to see it anyway.

We just watched Poseidon Adventure last night (had it taped), so I'm ready for the new one. :thumbsup2

Is it okay for a 10 year old? She loves Titanic and she really liked the original Poseidon Adventure. She's really into this ship disaster thing.

DS & I saw the new Poseidon movie yesterday. It was good - lots of action - kept our attention the entire movie.

I am hoping, hoping, hoping....that tickets to see this movie are my Mothers day surprise...if not, I will see it anyways!

I am stuck between wanting to see it and not wanting to see it.. I have seen the original but with the new version being on current cruise ships I cant bring myself to do it.. We cruise every year, sometimes more than once and Im afraid if I see it I wont want to cruise again.. I know anything can happen while you're out there, but still just seeing it would terrify me.. :confused3

We're going to go see it tonight. I can't wait, this is my favorite genre! We have the Poseidon Adventure (1972) on VHS (The Towering Inferno too - it's my favorite) and I love it, but I know that they can do so much more today than they could in '72, so I am expecting nothing less than sensational. LOL

After seeing those trailers, I really don't think I'm going to be disappointed either and after reading this thread, I feel even more confident.

In remakes, I do like when they change things up a bit so if you've seen earlier versions, you at least have a few surprises. I seen trailers for The Omen remake and it looks identical to the 1st (story line wise anyway) and IMO, that one should have been left alone.

I am super excited!

I saw it yesterday and enjoyed it. I love to cruise and it certainly won't stop me. However, if a ship I'm on is ever hit by a rogue wave, I hope to be among the first to go, because I sure can't hold my breath for that long.

Kurt Russell and Josh Lucas -- mmm, mmm, mmm. And the guy that played the daughter's boyfriend was pretty hot too!

I brought my two 12 year olds. My son was fine but my daughter was a little freaked out at a few parts and held my hand. :)

It is pretty intense and there are alot of dead bodies floating around, but if she has seen Titanic and been fine, this movie certainly isn't any worse than that.
