Just saw Black Swan and...

all I can say is, WOW, that was quite warped! That's two hours I can't get back. I think I liked last night's choice of movie much better. Love and Other Drugs.

I've been enjoying the $5 movies on my vacation, but thank goodness it was only $5 today.

I guess Natalie Portman is getting rave reviews for her peformance, but WOW, just WoW! Weird movie...So, did anyone else like this movie?

I loved it! I thought Natalie was amazing! There were some things I didn't get while watching it, but later on I realized and had an "Oh duh" moment.

I really want to see it but don't get out to the movies much so will wait for DVD. It looks a little weird but with the rave reviews Natalie Portman is getting I'm really curious about it!

Hmm, our paper gave it 4 stars, and rotten tomatoes gave it 88% (vs. 48 for your other movie). Rotten tomatoes has always been right on the money for me. I do like weird, complex movies.

I really liked it, but I really like Darren Aronofsky movies (Requiem for a Dream, Pi). He wants you to feel uncomfortable and disturbed, and is usually successful!

The girls in front of us thought they were watching a movie about Natalie Portman and ballet and I think they were traumatized.

Well, I'm thinking I'm just not into weird. I don't know. I didn't like the Departed either, and didn't it win all kinds of awards? Maybe, I just don't like the movies that our critically acclaimed to be something special.

I looooooved it. It wasn't quite the mind-mess I was expecting it to be, but I'd heard that it was weird and atypical going into it. Within the first few minutes of seeing Nina's life at home, all I could think is "She's got issues. I'm calling this now." (I had more specific issues in mind, btu I'm not sure if anyone's OK with spoilers on this thread).

In any case, I absolutely loved it. Makes me glad I didn't become a professional ballerina the way I wanted to.... when I was 4

Well, I can say it worked then because I was uncomfortable at times and find it all kind of disturbing.

I don't go to the movies often, but this is one I'm waiting to arrive at our local theatre. This is going to be Natalie's Oscar, mark my words. My Vogue came yesterday and she is on the cover. I haven't had a chance to read it yet. I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

For me personally, any movie that gets rave reviews, and any movie that winds an Oscar, really isn't anything that entertains me. I find most of these movies really weird and I guess they are considered "artistic", which means in my book, too weird to enjoy.

When I go to a movie I want entertainment, not to be disturbed, I can get that crap on the news why would I want it in a movie that costs me a small fortune to see?

I ddin't see it but my dd17 who is a dancer saw with her dance friends. They all thought it was intense.

DD17 went with her best friend(also a dancer) b ut I think they had already read the previews so no surprises for them. When she got home she said it was really but "You shouldn't see this one, Mom." Bless her heart, she knows me well. I would have totally gone there thinking we're about to see Swan Lake.

One of my friends saw it and loved it. I watched the trailer and it didnt really get me going. And i usually like weird movies. I also like Natalie Portman

I thought the movie was well done but as a ballet dancer, I would love to see a ballet movie that doesn't portray dancers as almost masochistic, neurotic individuals who are deprived of a normal and healthy life. Obviously the film isn't shooting for a realistic portrayal of company life so I am not criticizing the film itself, just commenting on ballet movies in general. I would so love to see one that portrays the freedom and artistry found in ballet. Somehow it seems that ballerinas in films (even movies like Save the Last Dance and the Step Up franchise) are presented as the uptight and overly perfectionistic characters and it is other dance forms (such as jazz, hip hop or street dancing) that are joyful and freeing.

Natalie Portman did a wonderful job and I thought her part was well acted but overall the movie was not quite my cup of tea. It definitely is a psychological thriller and there are some very intense scenes. I have to admit, there were a few points I had my eyes closed, like the hospital room scene with Winona Ryder near the end. Yikes! I would recommend the film to those who like this genre of movie, I just don't think it was up my alley. If Natalie does win the Oscar though, I do feel it will be well deserved.

I saw it a few weeks ago...one of the best movies I've seen all year. Just fantastic. I'm so hoping Natalie wins the Oscar for this, she was incredible.
