I just purchased over $4,000 worth of Disney gift cards at Target using my 5% pharmacy and 5% Target debit card...Woot Woot! Used them to pay off my trip with some left to spend at Disney in July!!! Saved $400...so I purchased some more to spend at Disney! It took over an hour to give gift card numbers to Disney operator..but he was very patient and helpful...VERY!!!! Trip is now paid for and I am feeling the Pixie Dust tonight!!

That is awesome. I never thought about that discount at Target. I use my rewards on another card as spending money for our trips. Usually cavers at least my fastpass+

So how does that work? I have a 5% pharmacy coupon and if I got a 5% for target red card, how much would a $100 disney card cost? $90 or ???

Couple of caveats.

1) You're not going to be able to buy $4,000 in Disney gift cards the first day you receive your card. I think the first day limit is about $300. Then your limit increases as you use your card. I've heard of managers overriding and allowing the discount if you if your red card won't allow you to buy as many gift cards as you want and you need to use your credit or debit card. But I wouldn't count on that kind of pixie dust.

Similarly, I've heard instances of cashiers not even ringing up the cards, because they say gift cards are excluded. However, that's not the case with Target cards. They're classified as entertainment cards, not gift cards.

2) If you or your spouse is employed by the Federal Government, and your insurance is under the Federal Employee Plan, you cannot use the pharmacy rewards. Under Federal law, pharmacies cannot give special rewards to people using federal insurance. At first, everyone thought this was Medicare. But the way the law is written, it means all Federal insurance. Several years ago, Walgreens had to pay a multi-million dollar fine for giving gift certificates to FEP holders who moved their insurance to Walgreens.

I'm a Federal employee, and it bugs me to no end. Still, I use my Red Card, and I've saved several hundred dollars in tickets.

I only buy $150.00 each month using Pharmacy Rewards and my Red Card. In 18 months (trip planned for fall 2014), I will save $270.00 and it will be practically painless.

We just did the same thing to add OBC on our cruise. I paid for almost all of our expenses from the cruise, including tips.

Does Target have the "loadable" gift cards, or are they in set (and smaller) denominations? I see Walgreens has cards you can load up to $500.

If I have to get smaller cards at Target for the 5% savings, though, I will.

So can you use the gift cards to purchase a package deal (such as the free dining package)? If so I will buy the gift cards, I just don't want to get stuck with tons of gift cards I can't use.

I buy a few hundred dollars worth every time I get a coupon. Then I call Disney and use them to pay down the balance on my upcoming trip. They only come in $50 denominations. Keep in mind, if you need a refund for any reason, it will go back to the original card. Each time I redeem one, I write the date on it and then put it in a pencil pouch in my planning binder. Also, I have tried to purchase one large giftcard with my smaller ones, but it can't be done in the store or over the phone. They won't combine them and don't allow giftcards as payment on a giftcard.

Hi Guys - I read about the huge savings using a RedCard - that is AWESOME! I just want to make sure before I go out and start spending - we are talking about the RedCard - the target only credit card? not the debit card and not the use anywhere credit card? And so say I spend $1000 on my RedCard on Disney Gift Cards, then what? I would get $50 cash back? I am just not sure how this works...Thanks!

A Redcard can be credit or debit. You save 5% on every purchase at Target. If you also get Pharmacy rewards (5% off a day of shopping after you fill 5 prescriptions) you can use that in combination with a Redcard discount. You do not have to have a Redcard to get the Pharmacy rewards program, just sign up at the pharmacy. If you buy $100 in gift cards, you would save 5% ($5) with the Redcard discount and then another 5% off of $95 ($4.75) with the pharmacy rewards, so it would be $90.25. There is no tax.
