Bought 7 day pass for $10 via Internet - received before I left. Upon arriving at MCO, I took LYNX 42 (after wait of about 15 minutes) to new Publix on International. Driver let me out at Publix entrance. Had to roll luggage through entrance and parking lot, not too bad. Bought "had to have" things, e.g., Atkins bars, Diet Rite, bottled water, etc. Took cab to resort. Screwed here as cab driver took I4 almost doubling the mileage, I expect, and the meter clicked as we waited to get on I4 to travel to the next exit. Next time, I'll insist that driver go via 535, Hotel Plaza, Pleasure Island, etc. It's only about 5 miles that way. When I asked driver, she said "too long" (I acquiesed this time, but not again). Fare was $15.75 plus my tip...$20 total.

Once at resort, Bellman loaded up stuff (including all the groceries), I checked in, and then he took me via van to my studio and unloaded the groceries. I gave him a $5 tip.

So, I got to the room for the LYNX fare of $1.50 (without a pass, the way I'll do it next time) plus the $20 cab ride with tip plus the $5 bellman tip. I had all the groceries I needed for the week too (somethings I simply felt I could not do without). It was about five hours for me to get from the airport, lollygagging around at the grocery, waiting for taxi, taxi ride, checkin, etc. I arrived at about 1:00 pm and was in my room with all my groceries unloaded by 6:00.

The ride from the airport to the Publix was about 1.5 hours, but pleasant enough, on Beeline and then down International Drive.

With the bus pass, I caught the 56 from the transportation center at WDW down 192. Went all the way to the Osceola Mall, but it was horrible and caught the next bus back. .

Another day, I caught the 50 from the transportation center to Downtown Station and then caught the 4 to the Millenia Mall. Horrible dropoff by the street without any cover from the sun or rain. Mall was not worth it for me. Also, hanging around the Downtown Station was not particularly pleasant. And, I wasted big part of the day waiting on buses. Won't do that again.

The 50 stops at Sea World and bus driver subsequently told me that I could have gotten off at the first stop after it comes off I4 and walked a block or so to Westwood to go to the Florida Mall (has a dropoff directly at the mall) and to go all the way back to the Publix and the Premium Outlets.

This was an adventure and I learned alot. Next time, I'll simply pay the $1.50 fare from the airport to the Publix, insist on the shorter cab ride, and if I want to hit Sea World, simply pay another fare there and back. You can also buy a day pass for $3. On some trip in the future I may try the above switcheroo to get to the Fl mall, but not next time.

I took Mears back for $19 (including tip).

Bus was certainly worth it for me to hit Publix on way in. And, I will do this again next time (August). It seems a very efficient way to get groceries in terms of both time and money, particularly since I may not have been able to get into my room before 4:00.

Iride trolley runs up and down Intl Drive too but I didn't use.

Go to www.golynx.com for systems map and specific schedules. If you're used to a limo, you might experience some culture shock going via Lynx, but for me (55 years old), the trip from the airport to the Publix is THE way that I'll ensure that I am able to pick up my needed stuff on the way to the resort.

How did you get back top the airport? There is towncar services that will take you from the airport to WDW that allow a 30 minute stop on the way. I think these cost around $75 round trip. You do not share the ride with strangers though so it should be much quicker.

Does Lynx go to any of the outlet malls, universal studios? $3 a day would not be bad at all. How long was the bus waits?

i took mears back $19 including tip. i believe towncar is closer to $100. i would never do that just for me. #42 bus is the thing for me on the way in. if staying on international drive (e.g., horizons, hgvc tuscany, cypress harbour) will take you directly to resort. otherwise, i'll stop at publix and cab it to on-site resort.

check out lynx site for specific routes. #42 runs every hour, as i recall. #50 and #56 from disney transportation center run every 30 minutes for sure. some routes only run once every hour so it's best to check.

you can also take #11 to downtown station and transfer to #50 to head directly to the disney transportation center. but i figured (and was correct) that publix trip was best made on the way in, so i wouldn't have to lug groceries on a bus.

ps - #42's last stop from the airport is premium outlet malls. you can get off the #50 at the first exit from I4 headed into town, walk over to westwood and catch the #42. there is most certainly a bus from downtown that goes back and forth to universal. you may be able to work out a shorter transfer route from the 50 bus. you can get a systems map from the lynx site too.

it's fun to figure out this stuff, and the airport to publix and transportation center to sea world are very easy trips. switching buses takes time and you would want to consider the time lost in getting places.

Thanks for the info...I think you're too nice to that cab driver:rolleyes:
The town car service starts at $85 RT ( it makes sense at 3-4 people), and is a lot more convienent/professional. The additional help is wonderful and well worth the money in my opinion.
Also wanted to let you know about WEGOSHOP (.com) check out their website...I thought it was very reasonable as well, if you were using Mears. A few on the DVC board have used and liked this service. Just FYI ...it might help on your next trip;)

Hey pchpie!

I was just thinking about you the other day, and wondering if you had finished your trip yet. I really enjoyed reading your report, and it sounds like you're really a trouper! I love an adventure, and I'm not usually afraid to try something like finding my way around. It's good to know that for those who are needing a grocery store visit, there is a way to do it without renting a car. How very ingenious of you to take the time to figure out your route and buy your ticket ahead of time. I can see you probably would have done just as well with just the fare for that one trip (from the airport). But we all live and learn, and now you know for the next time. I learn something everytime I travel somewhere, or at least I hope I do.

You have inspired many a traveler on these boards!

Thanks for your report!

thanks for the feedback. i AM a bit of an adventurer, and as i stood around the downtown station, i quickly realized that most people would not find this part of lynx 'fun.' even i did not and won't do it again.

i'm headed back down in august for 10 days (after five years away, it seems the only place i want to be these days). i'm a teacher and grateful to have a generous amount of vacation time.

i shall take the bus to the publix again this trip, but that's probably it this time. will be staying at pofq first for 3 nights, then to bwv for 4, then bcv for last 3. plan to get groceries, take a small collapsible cooler for pofq stay, then let disney take care of moving all my stuff (including cold stuff in cooler) when i change resorts.

then mears back to the airport.

if i can answer any other bus questions, let me know. btw, i went to the great amc movie theatre at dwd several hot afternoons. what a joy for this movie lover.

now how can i work that into my atkins diet???? believe it or not i sticked to my diet last week except for one small popcorn at the movies and moved one pound closer to my goal weight (11 pounds gone, 4 to go). maybe i'll try 'just one'....don't even know what these are but i've seen lots of people talking 'bout them.

i enjoyed lots of lettuce burgers and eggs/canadian bacon at mickey d's at dtd while people watching, particularly those with mcflurry's.

I forgot about the Atkins thing!

I guess I'm really having Disney withdrawal and all I can think about is going back! I haven't done Atkins, but I have done the Sugarbusters diet. I had to stop for a while because I was drinking too many sodas with Aspertame in them. Finally they came out with sodas with Splenda, and I drink those now.

I'm thinking you may want to post about your experience with the LYNX system on the UK community board as maybe someone there might be interested as well.

I admit I am very jealous of your return trip in August! That's when school starts here, and everything will be going full blast. I would love to have a "me only" trip, but that is probably never possible for me. Too many irons in the fire here.
