Just returned from 8 nights at OKW. We had a 2-bedroom unit (3536 & 35637) on Old Turtle Pond Road. Check in was quick and pleasant (received our welcome home!). Unit was in excellent shape, right across from the bus stop (never heard any bus noise) and a short walk to the quite pool. Only thing missing from our unit was the frying pan (strange?!), which was promptly and cheerfully replaced by housekeeping.

We used the bus service to get to and from the Magic Kingdom – Excellent service - never waited more than 5 minutes for a bus.

We brought my dad and niece along on this trip and they loved OKW. We really enjoyed having our breakfast and evening cocktails out on the deck. It is so peaceful and we enjoyed watching the birds and other wild life…lots of bunnies and ducks! Never had any problems with birds bothering us when we were eating on the deck. Our last family trip together was at the CBR in 1990, 7 of us shared 2 rooms; it was great, but very cramped! What a difference it made to have a 2-bedroom unit this trip for the 4 of us to spread out in! What a joy it is it be able to share DVC with family and friends!

They were doing some paving while we were down there on Turtle Pond Road near the pool. Didn’t notice any other rehab going on. The Boardwalk (Inn side) was being painted on the side where the Flying Fish is. We got a chuckle when we had dinner at the flying fish one night – their windows that face out to the boardwalk had full length pictures of the boardwalk area pasted into the window so you didn’t have to look out over the scaffolding and drop cloths! Now, that’s Disney imagination and magic at work!

We did notice that quite a few things were shut down in the parks being rehabbed etc. in preparation for Walt’s 100’Th birthday celebration this October, but it really didn’t impact our park touring that much.

We had dinner one evening at Jiko’s at the new Animal Kingdom Lodge. This place is fantastic. We toured the resort and saw lots of animals out and about. They have guides around all the viewing areas to answer questions. The pool area was nice, but nothing special. The meal at Jiko’s was outstanding. All staff were very warm and friendly. When we drove into the resort the security guard did ask what our purpose was and gave us a temporary parking pass. We used their valet parking service.

Counting down the days until our next DVC trip at the Boardwalk!

We just got back too and were in Bldg 37! We couldn't believe how fast they re-paved the road in front of the pool. Disney Magic! I was surprised though that the Turtle Shack was rarely open last week.

We had requested to be much closer to the HH but we discovered we liked the peace and quiet "toward the back". We also really liked the requested top floor we got. No patter of feet to be heard.

I finally took the Landscape tour last Wednesday and really enjoyed the 45 minute tour. Dave the Master Gardener has been with WDW for 20 years and had lots of interesting stories. He mentioned that this has been the coldest winter in FL since 1989 and since they landscape to be like the real Old Key West they lost alot of trees and shrubs this year. He also mentioned that certain resorts are chosen to landscape Epcot during the Flower and Garden Show and the OKW guys had done Morocco.

We also had dinner at Jiko's and were very impressed with our meal. The ambience is alot like the California Grill with the Chef viewing area. I'm not sure I cared for the dark Interior of the AK Lodge but the animal viewing areas were fantastic.

Glad to hear you had a great time!

JoEllen,

Wow, we were neighbors! Glad to hear you had a great time too! Will have to try the garden tour next time we are down there-sounds interesting and fun. We love the flower and garden show and thought this years event was better than prior years...the flowers were so beautiful! We too had a top floor unit, and it does make quite a difference not hearing the pitter patter of feet above you!

Glad to hear the new bus system is working well. We have never minded the bus, but occationally have to wait a little longer. I have read quite a few posts recently that the new system seems to be working.
