Glad I explained myself. Of course I wasn't calling anyone moody or rude. I just meant in comparison our customer service attitude in general is a lot less smiley and chatty.

yes, I agree there :).

That's why I prefer it :rotfl: I can't be doing with shop assistants bothering me when I shop. If I need help I'll ask for it ...But all that's another debate ;)

I hope you have a great time and I'll keep everything crossed that this rain stops for you as it's been horrible all day today. Safe journey :goodvibes

Me too - it's not that we are rude and moody (I know that's not what you meant btw). We aren't expected to be over-friendly if we really don't feel like it! I'd rather be greeted by a grump (but not rude) than someone who is having to pretend to be happy to see you when they're not! I've spent alot of summers in the States staying with my Uncle and I just can't be done with the over-enthusiasm! I think I will struggle with the American parks (can't remember what it was like at DLR as I was only there a day) enthusiasm! It's just different cultures and there are no rights and wrongs. As said in other posts on this matter, I think it would be weird if the Paris CM's acted in the same way as the American ones, it wouldn't fit in with the culture!

Life would be boring if we were all the same eh?

give me moody n rude any day!!!

i really cant stand the in ur face happy happy that u can sumtimes (note the word sumtimes) get in america, and i like to do things at my pace.....

ive never had an issue in dlp and find that, if u take the time to chat, the cms will, like any of us, each strike up the convo, or politely finish the chat..... which is what any of us wud do!

i cant compare parks, but im happy with dlp, its close, and tbh there is no chance we wud ever be able to get to any other due to the plane journey.... ds2 just wudnt b able to cope.....

The one thing I hate when visiting the US is that you are expected to leave a tip at a resturant even when the service was awful.

I was once followed down the street by a waitress becuase the service was so bad I did not leave a tip for her. So I just stood there while she ranted on that she lived on her tips and that I should leave her a tip even if the service was bad. - I just told her that if she wanted poeple to leave her tips she she be polite and courteous to her customers.

Luckly that never happens in Europe.

And don't get me started on the whole "have a nice day..." thing, it just winds me up you know it's total fake and they don't mean it.

to be fair, it may not be fake - we had a very enthusiastic and keen travel rep I remember very well from my only trip to the US (Florida). He was very in-your-face happy and "what can I do to help you" all the time he was on duty, and I can imagine thats what he was like all the time.

It may not be - lots of people are just that happy and jolly, and that is totally different because most of the time you can tell that they are genuine, but that is the same EVERYWHERE - I have met CM's at DLRP who are like that, and that's fab, but it isn't always genuine and that's what doesn't sit right!

Seriously???.. She followed you down the street for her tip?? :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Waa waa wee waa!

That all seemed a bit extreme IMO :confused3

Anyhoooow, I'm not trying to argue or anything here, but just wanted to say something. Torsie's statement seemed to be very quickly taken the wrong way, but then just as fast, some of you were quick enough to slate the Americans!

Some of my favourite comments re: Americans have been "pretending to be happy to see you", "in your face" and "fake". Like I said, not wanting to cause any trouble here, but it just surprised me how quick some people made these 'generalisations' about the US...

Yes, as someone said, it is all subjective - I love the American-way, or should I say sometimes, the 'Disney-way' of service! I have never found it all 'in my face' and overbearing. If you respond to it and join in then all well and good, but if you just smile and say thank you and don't want to bother, then they'll leave you alone. Well that was my experience when I worked for WDW anyhow... :confused3

I seriously miss that. I totally agree that it just isn't the same here - but again, just my opinion.

And just to add lol, every time I said "have a nice day", I honestly meant it. Nobody forces you to say it. It's just polite :good vibes

The OP said "Cast Members could certainly use some Disney University training as CM's do here in the US". I'm not speaking for CMs in DLRP, but I certainly know a lot of people working in this country who could do with some of that Disney University training, that I can say from experience, has put me in good stead :thumbsup2 I'm sure that's the case all over the world though!

I like your post :)

as this thread appears to have gone a bit off topic from the OPs post, I'll close it now.
