...that we will love it! (actually I'm sure we will). I was trying to reserve either a 1 br standard view or two standard studios, but the gal at member services said the rooms looked like they were blocked off due to renovations. I've stayed in a studio preferred view for 3 days before, this will be my husband's first stay at BW and it will be my husband, myself my baby who will be 11 months old by then and my mother for either part or all of the week. How is that time of the year for heat? I'm hoping it will be warm enough to swim (warm enough for my baby that is) but not to hot to cause headaches, etc. from walking around the park all day. Also, if there are no standard views because DVC is renovating why wouldn't we be given a preferred view for standard points? Don't flame me on that one, I was just wondering :)
Thanks!

You are going during my favorite time of the year. The weather is warm and the crowds are low.

Have a great stay!:D

We'll be missing you by a few weeks - we'll be at WDW at the very end of October.

Don't feel bad about the standard view. My understanding is that in order to get standard view, you pretty much have to call very close to the 11 month window, so even if they weren't all blocked off for renovations, they probably would have been gone by now anyway.

From everything I've read, October should be a very good time to be there, weather wise. We just got back from a late January trip with our (then) 19 month old, and he LOVED WDW in general, and the Boardwalk in particular. Your baby should have a fantastic time! Lots of stimulation around BW!

Thanks Smiley and Jon! Hey Jon, heard about anymore Triangle area DIS meets?

but that might be a good question to post as a thread... :D

Hi Heather!

We'll also be there starting the 6th of Oct. My girls will have their birthdays during our stay. I booked back in Nov. and got a standard view 1BR then. I also have a 2BR booked for our second "week" since my parents will be joining us. Sorry it didn't work out for you. Are you getting on a wait list? I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of rooms open up due to BCV opening by then.

Hey Lora that's a great birthday gift! Actually my birthday is the 5th so it will kind of be my birthday week too! ;) I asked about being put on a waitlist, but the girl said that it looked like they were blocked off due to renovations so it sounded to me like she was saying it wouldn't make a difference. Plus I'm borrowing 199 of my points from 2002 (Even though we'll be going in November of 2002 our use year is December so they're not actually deposited until the first of December) so I'm assuming once I made the reservation and borrowed those points even if a standard view became available I'd still have 40 some points (points difference between preferred and standard) to be used by the end of November or lose them. They wouldn't redeposit those just because I was on a waiting list would they? I guess I should say to myself, well this is why we bought into DVC so we'd have an awsome place to stay for a good solid week. We have plenty of years left to start going twice a year or bring other family members down which is the only reason I was trying to save points.

Hi,Heather!
We have gone to WDW in October for the last 4 years, and we love it! We were taking the kids out of school for a week in late Sept./early Oct. when they were in elementary school, but now that we have 2 in middle school, and it is much harder to make up missed work for the younger 2 that are still in elementary, we can only go when school is out. Lucky us, this is the third year we are getting a week off in early Oct.(Oct.7-11). Myself and 3 kids will be going down on the 6th, and DH and DS will be flying into Orlando on the 9th, just in time for all of us to get on the Wonder on the 10th! We are staying at the BW,too, in a preferred view(not my first choice, either). It is still plenty warm enough to swim, and the parks are crowded enough to feel like WDW, but not too crowded to do everything. We usually do not go to a water park in Oct., choosing to spend a few half-days at the pool, sometimes "hopping" to SAB(doubt we will be able to do that this year). We love Epcot, so the location is great for leaving the park mid-day, swimming a while, then heading back for dinner/Illuminations. I think it will become your favorite time to go to WDW. We went the first time to celebrate DS's birthday(Oct.1), and it is now our "big trip" to WDW each year! Have a great time!

Michelle(from NC, too)

Thanks Michelle! From everyone here it sounds like we're going to love it in October. My husband and I have been going around Labor Day for the past few years (our anniversary is Aug. 30th) but its so hot around that time of year. Thanks again everyone! I'm off to the restaurant boards to start planning where we're going to eat-hey its only 7 months away!

How long are the BWV renovations supposed to go on? Oct 2002 and they still won't be done? Seems like by the time they finish, it may be time to renovate again...anybody know the scoop here?

about not getting the standard view. When I booked our January trip six months beforehand, I too was disappointed that no standard views were available. (As it turns out, post Sept. 11th, they DID become available, but I had already borrowed the points for a preferred view and would have lost them, so we stayed with preferred), and we wound up with an absolutely *fantastic* view! We asked for Boardwalk view, top floor, and we got a room directly over the Big River Grille, on the top floor, and the view was absolutely *spectacular*!! I realize that not ALL of the 'preferred view' rooms have a fantastic view, but go ahead and put in all your requests for what views you'd like. Go ahead and put 'near the elevators' somewhere in your request list, because if you *don't* get a Boardwalk view, then getting near the elevators is the next best thing. :D Like I said, we had a great view, but DANG!!! What a walk from the elevators!
