It was terrible. Did anyone like this? I really wanted to see it in the theatre and I'm so glad I didn't waste my money. I normally love Sarah Jessica Parker, but I thought she was just awful. Not sure if it was just the character or what. Everyone was just rude. I could tell from the beginning that she and Dermot Mulroney didn't even love each other really. I was very disappointed.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it, Beth. Maybe we're weird but my mom, my sister, my niece and I all loved it. In fact, it's our new family holiday movie. We usually always watch Home for the Holidays and now we've added this to the rotation for next year. :teeth:

We actually paid $9.00 a piece to watch it at the theater. :confused3

I found all of the characters totally unlikeable, and I really didn't care at all if they got together in the end or not.

At the risk of sounding catty, I think Sarah Jessica Parker looks much better on a small screen. I thought she was cute on Sex and the City, but some of those close-ups on that huge screen were NOT flattering at all.

I'll probably still watch it once it's on HBO, but thanks for your review.

Somewhat of a spoiler ahead....

I rented it, thank goodness DH fell asleep and didn't watch it or he would have really complained. They market it as a COMEDY. It was NOT funny at all! It was depressing. I know they didn't focus on the mothers sickness, but it was an underlying storyline throughout the movie. How can they label it a comedy? I saw the add that it was on dvd...said one of the funniest movies. Yeah, right! Sad, boring, depressing. I would NOT recommend it.

I rented it as well I though it was okay not the greatest movie ever. SJP seems horribly awkward through the whole thing but maybe that was just her character.

Another "Separated at Birth" moment...I loved it too. :teeth:

Oh, thank goodness you and Aimeedyan chimed in! I was starting to think my whole family was more abnormal than we had originally realized. :teeth:

:rotfl2: We're going to have to start inviting you to Thanksgiving and Christmas, Mal, seeing as how you're our long lost sister and all.

I saw it in the theater and thought it was very good. It was, however, not what I expected. After seeing the trailers on TV, I thought it would be a comedy. It was a very sad movie about a totally dysfunctional family that really loved each other.

I agree with you, I rented the other day. What a waste of money. I'm glad I didn't see it in the theater.

Count me in as another who thought it wasn't very good but then, I haven't seen much with Sarah Jessica Parker that I have actually liked.

We also saw it in the theater and liked it very much. Also liked SJP in failure to lanch.

I saw it on the small screen and I still thought she looked awful. You're right, not flattering at all. I did think she always looked great on SATC, but not in this movie.

Ha ha! I order from Blockbuster online and the little sleeve that comes with it said "An engaged couple returns home for Thanksgiving." They were not engaged yet and it was Xmas! :rotfl:

I did see some funny parts, but not a whole lot. I did cry at the end though. I will say that the ending was good even though the rest of the movie stunk. Although I didn't too much care for the fact that the two brothers ended up with the two sisters. That's just weird.

However....I couldn't get past 20 minutes of King Kong.

Oh, my gosh, me either! I rented it mainly for DH. When he wandered out of the room after 20 minutes because he thought it was unbearable, I immediately popped that sucker out of the dvd player! There was no way I was watching that on my own. :teeth:

I'll wait for it to go on HBO and will Tivo it as soon as it does. It looks enjoyable and I'll be expecting it to be so.

I saw it at the theater and I kinda liked it. As a matter of fact, I'll probably watch it again on DVD.

It was about a dysfunctional family - no really likeable characters on there....except Luke Wilson  :teeth: .

But even so, they pull together when they have to. I had tears at the end.
