Wanted to share my HAPPY news :D

Just bought a 1980 Bonair pop up over the weekend for an awesome price of just $150 :cool1:

We've always been tent people so this is a BIG change for us and we're feeling pretty clueless right now.

We intend on gutting pretty much the whole thing to make it pretty and was wondering if anyone knows of any good - how to remodel pop ups/rv's - websites. Also, would love pics of reno's for ideas.

We were 'thinking' of camping in Disney when we go next (2015) but now that we have the pop up we're DEFINITELY going to be staying at Fort Wilderness  I know... it's early to be thinking Disney for us.... But I'm so so so EXCITED! Especially now that we have our "Disney World House"

Congrats!

We just upgraded from our '85 Coleman, that cost $200.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about fixing them up. I do know if you google, there are a ton of pop-up websites and groups out there. :)

I second GypseeDaddy on the Popupexplorer forums.

When you get to it, you might want to chect out Bear Creek Canvas (google their website) and they should be able to get you a a replacement flex canvas liner for your pup. They have good reviews on POP.

Good luck and let us know when you head to the Fort. :wave2:

We bought an 82 coleman pop up for $400 a couple of years ago. We replaced all the canvas www.canvasreplacement.com they had great prices and were very helpful. It made it look amazingly better and smelled better too. Let me warn you, my husband was singing some not so nice words but in the end it was worth it just a pain to put it in.

We just purchased an older coleman 1983. No intentions to take it to Disney yet, but you never know! We go often but stay in the hotels, cabins etc.

However we love to camp!

As for renovations, I've started replacing mattress and seat coverings with some new fabrics. The canvas is almost perfect for the age but does need to be cleaned a bit.

My question for reno is has anyone ever painted the box part of their pop up and what kind of paint, etc did they use? I've been through all the forums and theres not much on painting and how to get it done.

Thanks! That's a great website/forum, lots of great info on there! :)

Thanks for the link. Whilst one day I would like to replace the canvas it's on the last of our to do list. Surprisingly, for the year our canvas is in great condition. Doesn't really smell at all, no mold or mildew, a few tears that were patched, but overall it's in pretty decent shape.

We also plan to paint ours. :artist: We're thinking a deep navy blue with perhaps a nice baby blue stripe. I haven't a clue what the best type of paint would be for it. If you discover some painting tips do let me know please :)

Right now my hubby's main focus is fixing the cable to allow the pop up to actually pop up. I'm kinda sitting on my hands at the moment waiting for him to fix some 'functional' odds and ends so that I can get in there and make it pretty though I suppose I could start on the mattresses, seat covers, and curtains while I wait. We're going to keep the cupboards but I'm going to put in new counters, a new table, new sink, stove, fridge, lighting, flooring....

I'm so excited :cheer2:

Yes, I will. I have no clue how to start but as soon as work slows a bit I will be trying to figure it out!

The fabric stores, Joann and Hancock, had 50% of sales on the outdoor fabrics.

Just a word about painting your camper a dark color - it will make it get VERY HOT inside because it will just soak up the sun's rays. Don't want to be a kill joy, but just want to make you aware of that as you consider colors. :)

Thanks, that never occurred to me as a consideration. Can tell I'm Canadian, eh?!? lol :rotfl2:

Where do you get these bargains? Craigslist?

I found it kijiji.ca (It's a Canadian version of Craigslist). The guy selling it to me really didn't want to let it go, but his wife had put her foot down. As I mentioned it needs some work and apparently it was just taking to long for him to get it down so his wife said enough was enough. Poor guy seemed heart broken as my hubby drove out of his driveway with it.

Those rays may be welcome!

Still trying to figure out the painting angle.

I ordered new canvas for my camper and have gotten some cushion fabric. Moving along nicely but I may have to take it south to use it this year! (Maybe November at FW.)
