We normally go for 11-15 days each summer to WDW. This year, we've been having problems as school board changed our calendar, so our APs expire earlier than planned, so we've been looking at doing 4 or 5 non-park days at the end of our summer trip, and we've been excited about that, but still struggling with waitlist coming through, dining issues, recreation, etc. So, this morning, DH says he has a brilliant idea to go to WDW in March!
After a few minutes of calculations, and calling to snag a studio at SSR it is booked! For only 10 points more than our non-park days in the summer, we are getting 5nights/6days. This is an extra vacation, but at minimal costs as the food we would have been eating in the summer anyway, so it's just transportation (gas/hotels on road). We were going to go somewhere small during March Break, which would have cost more than this trip. Since we already have APs, parks are covered, and baby is still free as he is still 2! And, I just got all of our ADRs as well!
We are looking forward to it, but a bit nervous as our 1st ever trip home as DVC members was in March and eldest daughter had to be hospitalized at 22 months with multiple illnesses that she picked up at WDW. I am a bit nervous, but hubby reminded me that we have had like 7 other vacations since then, and all healthy!!
So, to those who are thinking of surprise trips, there is some availability here and there, so you might be lucky like us!
Happy spring planning to all, Tiger

. We just booked a trip at the end of February a week ago and I was able to get a studio at AKL Kidani village savanna view so I jumped on it
. Similar to you I was planning a trip at that time and looking for a cruise with no luck. Then as we sat around the breakfast table my mom says, we just love Disney so much and we have our APs, why don't you call to see if they have availability. The trip would be just be the cost of airfare and some dinners as we usually eat breakfast in the room and do late lunch/early dinner. I called MS and minutes later we were in a savanna view room, booked airfare literally seconds later for a decent price that has gone up $100 per person since I booked. I just love my
. My co-workers, however, really think I need professional help
. Have a wonderful time.
