I just ordered a Pentax K100d Super with Kit lens from BH Photo. They had the cheapest price 499.00 plus the 100.00 rebate. I should have it in 3-5 days. I'm so excited, this was my Christmas present. Now to buy accessories for it. :goodvibes Thanks to all the great reviews this camera has gotten on here, I decided on it only after I went and tested every camera I could get my hands on.

So, we are headed to Disney at the end of Jan. If you were to buy another lens to take, which would it be? Let me add, that my dd is in competition dance, so it would be nice to have a lens to use for that, without a flash if possible and of course you usual vacation photos and pictures of the girls. I will be asking lots of questions once it gets here I'm sure. Thanks for all your wisdom!

I would recommend the tamron 28-75 f2.8. You will get lowlight ability throughout as the 2.8 goes for the entire range of the lens it is however a little limited at the wide end but you have the kit lens to cover that. I have it and it has become my walkaround lens on my K100d. Welcome to the world of SLR's from another Pentaxian

Welcome to both the DSLR and Pentax family. You might want to consider the FA 50mm f/1.4 for WDW.

Congrats on the camera I have the K100D and love it. I just ordered the pentax DA 50-200mm for mine. Not to hijack the thread, but ukcatfan, I am still fairly new to DSLR's myself...what is the difference....I have an SMC Pentax-A 1:2 50mm....

If you're going to WDW, I'd definitely recommend the 50mm F1.4 as your next lens. I used mine for ~50% of the photos that I took when I was there (exactly one year ago, coincidentally enough!) The sharpness, color, bokeh, and low-light ability are untouchable for the price.

The Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 is very nice but is more of a replacement for the kit lens - but will still struggle in low light. F1.4 is two more full stops of light-gathering ability and that makes a big difference in dimly-lit WDW.

Congrats on your new purchase!! With your trip less than a month away spend plenty of time with your new K100 so you're familiar with all the settings PRIOR to your trip (and don't forget to pack your manual!!).

I have the K100 (not the Super) and my initial setup was the kit lens, the 50-200 and the 50mm that Kevin and Groucho mentioned. I would definitely recommend the 1.4, it's a great low light lens which is often recommended. You need to keep a steady hand with it or use a tripod to avoid blurry pictures.

My only concern with going to WDW with just the kit lens and the 50mm is that you would have times you don't have enough reach. I recently purchased the Tamron 18-250 to replace my 18-55 and 50-200, it's a great walkaround lens and I'm very happy with my choice but I always pack my 50mm as well.

I guess my point is don't be surprised if you don't stop at just one more lens, the dSLR world can become expensive!!:teeth:

Thanks for the suggestions. I was actually thinking of the 50mm, but worried that I would need another for reach. Wonder if I could talk dh into buying two extra lenses.

I plan on playing with the camera as much as possible before our trip and I purchased understanding exposure, so hopefully I'll be ready.

Pentax's 18-250mm is out now, Beach has had it in stock (may still have it at the moment.) I think it's priced similarly as the Tamron, and supposedly is the same basic lens but with some improvements. Something to consider if you are after a single lens with lots of reach.

The 50mm is really nice because it will show you just what your DSLR is capable of... the 18-55mm and 50-200mm are nice, but the 50mm is noticably sharper, and can do short-depth-of-field photos much better. And, of course, it really shines in low light, when the other lenses are really struggling.

I ordered it!!!! I am excited, and the price was great!
It was also $499 at adorama ( but out of stock) and at berger bros. so i ordered from b&h too!

So my new toy arrived yesterday. Hopefully this weekend I will get to go play with it. I did try it out yesterday. I really like how it feels in my hands. Thanks to everyone on here who recommends this camera. :goodvibes
