in anticipation of DD's and DS's senior years in high school (2016 & 2017 respectively)

I realized after this weekend, that both years are going to be really expensive not only for their costs (senior pics, college apps, proms, etc) but gifting $$ to the many children to whom we are really close that will be graduating at the same time.

I'm having $10/week drafted from checking to a special savings acct beginning next week. Over the course of 5 years, that will be at least $2500 to help defray the costs of 2 very expensive years :scared1:

I may have to increase it over time, but at least it's a start :thumbsup2

Good for you! I also like opening accounts way in advance.. I have a Bar Mitzvah account opened for a few years already my son will turn 13 in 2013.

I opened a "braces" account a good year or so ago and am now using that to pay for my son's braces..

Always great to be prepared as much as possible..

Hint for senior pictures: Get them done at the local Sears or JCPenney studio. Several hundreds of dollars cheaper! Or at least in our area they are.

This is a great idea! I had a senior last year and another senior this year. There are so many expenses involved with senior year. My dh and I used our credit card points last year to get $25 reward gift cards or Bed, Bath, and Beyond gift cards and then used those for gifts at grad parties that we were invited to. DS was in a class where we knew a lot of the kids(and parents) well from marching band. We don't know as many in DD's class this year, so we won't need as many.
