Still trying to decided on where to stay - looking at places on W Ball Road and walking to Mickey and Friends Parking Structure to catch the tram - the hotels are cheaper there and really I only need a bed and free wifi - no breakfast is required - so really looking for your thoughts .

I would look at the Motels on Katella Ave, such as the Super 8 next to the Anaheim Garden Walk, much nicer area and about the same price. Don't forget to sign up for the free Wyndham Rewards program before you go. Walkable, or you can catch the ART shuttle service.

I want to be spending around $300 inc taxes for the 2 nights 14/15 Oct if possible , will have a look at the ones near garden walk

Do NOT stay on the south side of Katella, except for the new Hotels, which are out of your price range. (Such as Little Boy Blue, Islander, Sahara etc.)

Alpine Inn on Katella is a good low cost option.

Extended Stay America (Convention Center) is another one to look at.

Ramada Plaza on Katella is also good at your price point.

As a Choice Hotels member, I would look at the Quality Inn on Manchester. Also the Comfort Inn at Katella and Manchester.

Motel 6 is on Disney Way and decent for the price. (Just checked, $86 per night on your dates, plus tax and Wi-Fi fee (optional). Best deal I could find quickly that I would be comfortable recommending. )

All mentioned are basic places to stay, some have some sort of light breakfast.

When checking rates, don't forget that there is a 17% Hotel Tax (as a resident, thank you in advance ;), also parking and Wi-Fi fees might be added, so make sure you are looking at the total price.

But it is easy to get under $150 per night

Looks like most close stuff is sold out, but I'm seeing Quality Inn and Suites at $125 a night... that's pretty close and walkable, it's behind the Fairfield. I've heard good and bad stuff about it, but seen some decent reviews lately, of the "all I need is a clean bed and a shower" variety.

Eden Roc is about 99 a night on the dates we are going 9-29 to 10-02, doing a 15% off and free parking if you book directly through them. Was going to be 350 for our stay, but wife found BW Stovalls for about 50 bucks cheaper for the same dates and slightly cheaper.

As someone else suggested how about Airbnb. There's a room on there for $172 total for your two nights. 15 minute walk to DL and good reviews. Wifi is available also.

If you sign up for Choice Privileges, the Quality Inn is currently $118 under the "deals" pricing. (register for free first, and then sign in under your membership info) Total with tax would be $276 on your dates.

Comes with free parking, free good breakfast, free Wi-Fi, a small fridge and microwave in your room.

Motel 6 Disney Way is coming up at $248 for 2 nights (2 persons) (plus an extra $3 a day for Wi-Fi), just free coffee and parking.

I should add, book through TripAdvisor (for the first time), and they will give you a $25 Amazon Gift Card (book by October 3rd, valid on your dates of stay).

FYI, Anaheim is cracking down on STR's (aka Airbnb) and shutting them down. I would not recommend using them, the location I presume mentioned is a Condo complex behind the Mickey and Friends parking structure, and not near anything except a gas station quickie mart. I would much rather stay at the Quality Inn, where there is management/maintenance on site, and close to restaurants and shops to go to before/after the park.

Oh wow thank you Darkbeer so detailed and to everyone else too.
Now to decided :)

Thank you for the nice words...

I have to admit I am a local, but have stayed in a few places, including the Quality Inn due to construction at my house.

But I do travel a lot, so know some of the ways to save money.

I also know some of the owners/marketing reps of the Disneyland Hotels, due to media connections over the couple of decades of covering Theme Parks.

And no I just "stuck" in helping out covering the upcoming Disneyland Eastern Gateway project due to my contacts. (Nice for the wallet, though I keep telling my wife that I am saving up for a nice Christmas gift, and she just says, you just like hanging around city hall.....)

One thing in covering Theme Parks and travelling in general, everyone is different, and the best thing is to try and offer different options. And here in Anaheim, we have an amazing selection of different styles and price ranges, from places I wouldn't send my worst enemy to, to luxury Hotels if you can afford it.

Some folks need a kitchen in the room due to dietary restrictions, some want "walking distance" (and heck what is that, everyone would say a different length) some want a valet, some want free parking, etc... There is not one answer for everyone, which as someone who likes puzzles and pays his bills as a Tax Accountant, it is a bit of fun to try and match up the best place for the specific person.

Yes, I do have my favorites, but try and not recommend them unless it is a good match.

But I can't add up the amount of miles I have walked in the Anaheim Resort District (including the parks, which I went to as a baby in 1960, and have been going regularly ever since). But I know the area better than most folks, and it still freaks my wife out when folks like the Mayor come up out of the blue and says hello...

So it is truly your decision, such as what is "breakfast" worth to you, will you even want it, or will you compare it to McDonald's or other low priced options? Will you have a car (do you need parking?), access to Public Transit, Wi-Fi, etc. It is a decision that I have to make when on the road, and it is truly a puzzle. What is the best deal, do I earn Frequent Stay points, what promos are available, etc. I am pretty good at it, and a former long term girlfriend was a Travel Agent and we worked together back when the computerized age of Travel was just starting....

Whatever you decide, I hope you have a great visit!

Groupon getaways, 3 star mystery hotel, its desert palms, they were also doing an additional 10% off today, tax and everything should be about $250

The places on Ball Rd. are pretty isolated. There's not much around and the walk to the Mickey and Friends Tram can be 10 - 15 minutes and not lots of people around (can be spooky at night!). I found taking the Tram wasn't all that helpful.....by the time I got to the parking area, it wasn't that much farther to get to DTD and get to the parks! We, too , got a cheap deal, but I wouldn't stay back there again!

I will I'm sure - I can afford the more expensive places , ive always stayed onsite but this time I'm by myself and can't justify the $$$ so kind of being a tight a, lol - I appreciate the advice and your solid knowledge - I've followed your comments on TA in the past - I'm a traveller from Australia so thank you again. This trip no parking required , and breakfast no big deal and yes agree with the walkable distance thing - everyone's different. Will let u know what I decide :)

We are travelling from Melbourne and will be there early December and are returning to Park Vue Inn ~ we found being right across the road from the main entrance sooooo convenient. We could pop back for a swim or a nap for our grandchild and then back over to the park and then even back for dinner and then maybe go back later to play Buzz ;) They do serve breakfast upstairs and we loved having ours on the patio; in the evening you can watch the fireworks from the patio.
