I just made my first 2 shirts! I'm so proud of myself:laughing: One of my images was large (8x10) size and it took really long to get it to stick! Does this happen to every1. It took REALLY long. I pressed really hard and even had my hubby press on the iron too and it still took a good amount of time to get the corners to stick. I hope this will get easier as I make more, because just those 2 shirts took me close to an hour. (and I'm the kind of person who does everything quick)

Hi there! I just made my first shirt too and I had trouble with the edges. Even after I peeled away the paper, I took the iron and melted down some of the corners and edges that were sticking up a little. I thought it took longer than the 20 sec. for each part too. EVerytime I tried to start to peel it and the edges weren't completely down, I ironed some more. Frankly, I don't think the middle needed it but it was my 1st time, so I wasn't sure. It was the Wilton light fabric transfer. Of course, I'm pleased but I'm a perfectionist, and no, it wasn't perfect. Maybe, instead of cutting around the image, I should just iron the whole darn sheet down.:confused3

Hi-

I did shirts for my son's class. At first I used the Wilton for the light fabric-had a really hard time and it was hard to peel some of the paper away. So, I tried the ones for dark fabric and for me I had no problems. I have seen on other threads where people use the dark fabric transfers on the white shirts and you don't have to worry about reversing the photo.

Hope that helps/

Judy

Would like to see your finished project ;)

hmmm, wondering if the iron was hot enough and if you had the shirt on a hard surface (like a cutting board) instead of an ironing board?

I did full size transfers (dark and light) and it never took more than 4 or 5 minutes TOPS! to iron on each design.

I did it on a small wooden table. Is that ok? I set my iron on the highest for cotton.

as long as it's a hard surface (and you protect the surface sufficiently); it should be no problem. What brand transfers did you use, were they light or dark, where did you get them, and how long did you have them before using them? (I'm thinking perhaps they're defective!)

I know when I use old transfers it takes longer to iron on than with new ones. Maybe you got an old batch or something.

One thing I do always, no matter what brand or type, is a pattern that starts and ends with the outside in a square or circle. Then I do the middle then the outside again. The pattern depends on how big the iron on is. Make sure the iron always moves but it can be very slowly. If the transfer is hot peel make sure the edges are HOT when peeled. If it is cool peel, wait for it to cool, no matter how anxious you are to see the finished product.

Good luck.

I used Avery and i got them from walmart. I used the light transfers. I just bought dark ones now so we will have to see how that goes. My shirts came out nice I was just surpised how long it took. Hopefully the ones I do tonight will go quicker. Thanks for all ur help.
