We joined the DVC on our cruise last week- the incentives were great and it is going to really work for our family. Now what is next? I think we are going to bank this years points and do a big Disney vacation next year with a two bedroom suite so my parents could go. What else do i need to know??:confused3Thanks!

You may want to do a quick look at resale prices. You can pay a lot less by buying resale. You can't use them for cruising, but that tends to be an expensive use of points anyway. You have up to ten days to back out of the contract you signed (if you have already signed one). Guides are merely timeshare sales people, not magical helpers.

Terminology. Not a suite, a villa. You do know that you don't get daily housekeeping right? If you stay seven nights or less, you will get your towels replaced and trash removed on day four (with day one as check in day). If you stay eight nights or more, you get a full cleaning on day four, trash and towel service on day eight. You can only have as many people as you have sleeping spaces. Studios sleep four, one bedrooms four or five, two bedroom eight or nine (depending on the resort). Towels are not unlimited. You get as many as sleeping spaces.

Be careful with understanding use year. What is your use year? When do you plan to go next year? If it is anytime from October to early January, you'll want to book that at 11 months out at your home resort so you can get what you want. What is your home resort? Otherwise, you can try to book a non-home resort at seven months out, but some of those are hard to get for those prime Oct to Jan times.

We bought into DVC in 1997 and paid $50 a point for our initial 175 points at OKW and have been fairly happy with the purchase. Added on four times, sold off two of those four for more than we paid. But that is not going to happen anytime in my lifetime againg with the price that Disney is charging now per point.

Good luck with your purchase and finding out more about DVC. This is a good place to start.

You can also contact Member Services to get your member number and the log in information for the website. Your paperwork should have the information you need.

Any other questions you do have, though, can be asked of the guide that helped you. If you financed, you will get information regarding that. You will also owe 2012 dues, that will be prorated from the day that you signed the papers. Be sure you know when you will be billed for these so you can pay them (which can be done via the DVC members website--or set up to come out of your checking account as a debit each month).

As mentioned, however, there is a huge resale market out there and if you were not aware of it, you should consider checking it out if you have not yet exceeded your 10 day rescind period. You can save a lot of money. I have even seen a few Aulani contracts already so there is a lot available.

Congratulations and Welcome Home!!!
