I've never been, we are local now, figured we might as well try it out.

Can you give me a idea of how scary you feel it is?

Is it ghosty scary or gory scary? What is the overall experience like? Mostly rides or haunted houses?

Oh yeah, how close do the actors get? Are they allowed to touch you or just get up in your face?

Thanks!

Ok so I don't find too much scary, if people are jumping out scaring me, that is the fun kind of scary. If it's just a bunch of gory nonsense, I don't want to waste my money, that stuff doesn't scare me or really have an effect on me.

The one thing that FREAKS me out is being stuck- bad analogy here since we are talking universal, but i avoid the haundted mansion at disney-not becasue the ride freaks me out, but the beginning part where they cram you in that crowded room and tell you that you can't get out... is there usually ( i know stuff changes year to year) anything where they cram you in really close and get you nice a claustrophobic and tell you that you are stuck?

It absolutely depends on your tolerance. Last year, we went through 7 of the 8 houses without getting a real scare. Last house of the night, we were crouched down on the floor begging for mercy.

It can get really intense. You're essentially walking into a scary movie. And if any of the house themes already play with your psyche (I was hyperventilating walking up to an empty Freddy Krueger house a few years back), it's going to be even scarier.

They're not allowed to touch you, really, but they can get incredibly close.

Agreed...it's very tough to say how scary something is since what's scary to you may not be scary to me. My best advice to the OP is to check out YouTube to see videos from years past.

Very much depends on tolerance...I didn't flinch once last yr and I thought I would be terrified. Mostly ppl jumping out yelling boo at you...idk if that scares you or not but thats about the extend of what I would consider scary.

But then again last yr I went through a haunted forest with some girls who were screaming their head off at such a thing. So it will vary from person to person.

Haven't decided if its worth my money this year or not yet. I did like the scare zones but the houses to me were too dark and not much to be seen except wondering where you are supposed to go.

But I would say check it out. Imo its worth the $40 or so for a night to check out.

I'm checking out youtube videos now! I never thought of that!! thanks guys!

I am a huge fan of HHN...i go every year and will be there on Sept 30th with my parents who are 62 and both love it. Its a really fun time. The houses are really well done and are pretty much the teens jumping out and scaring you but they have really great sets. theres lots of cool stuff to see outside the houses as well, not to mention really good shows like Bill & Ted and Brian Bushwood will be there this year. I saw him 2 yrs ago there and his magic act was good. If youve never seen the Bill & Ted show at HHN you are missing out. My main tip is that the later in the night the more drunk and rowdy the crowd tends to get. If you do a "stay n scream pass" and get right in when HHN starts (usually they let you get started at 630 even tho they say 7) You can see alot of the attractions early and get out of there by 11pm or so if you dont want to be in too many crowds. I also reccommend the express because the lines can be INSANE.
check out www.halloweenhorrornights.com and you can see this years house descriptions

Aww man! I can't wait for this! I'm as jumpy as they come... especially when it gets dark!

That varies person to person. I love the Art of the Scare and love the design and everything that is put into it. I get absorbed into it and allow the Scare to happen. If they get me, I jump/scream/dodge/curse/whatever. Then I clap/laugh if it was a really good "got you!" type scare. I have fun with it.

Yes and yes. It is ghostly, gory, sexy, creepy, loud, disorienting, and fun. It's 8 haunted houses, 2 shows, and a few rides are running (Jaws at night is fantastic!) The rides do not change.

They can't touch you and you can't touch them. They can get in your face/personal space and make all sorts of noise. Some of my friends that were scareactors did single me out and did....horrible things...snarling in my ear (that sent a chill down my spine), tormenting me and my group in various scenes, etc.

Every year there is one house that has the Spinning Tunnel. That messes people up...

That sounds just like me. If they get a scare on me, I'll laugh, clap, even say thank you! (They usually answer - "You're welcome", "Anytime", "You're nuts"....)

I have to keep that in mind about acting scared. I've been going for many years, and it's not uncommon that I can go through a scarezone and no one seems to try to scare me. I think that's partly because I'm not a younger woman, so maybe they think I'll collapse on 'em :rotfl2: . But also, maybe they can tell I know where to look for scares, so they steer clear of me. I'll see if I can work on my acting chops and play scared to really get scared!!:scared1::eek:

Which house was that?

Dracula. Imagine this is after a night of Howl-O-Scream and a night of HHN.. and our last house of both nights.. 15 houses later, you would think we would know all the tricks. No, Dracula was ON when we walked in and it was terrifying.

Timing is everything when it comes to scares and the rest of the people in our large group did not have the same experience we did in that house.
