:wave2: We're new to the DVC and are going to be at OKW in early September. I've read about the resort itself and everything says this resort is spread out. Is it larger and more spread out than Port Orleans Riverside? I'm a little worried :confused3 about all of the walking that everyone is talking about. Thanks...

Is it spread out, yes it is. But where are you planning to walk to? There are a number of bus stops spread out around the resort and a couple of small pools to use beside the main pool so it's really not that bad.

You will probably do less walking than at BWV or many other hotels, for that matter. Each building is close enough to any bus stop, and every bus, no matter where it is going, stops at HH before leaving the resort. We felt like we did much more walking at POR, because we didn't have the multiple bus stops near each unit. We find we rarely need to go to HH anyway. We rarely use the main pool (prefer the quiet ones), and if we are going to Olivia's, we take the bus.
Here is an OKW map.

PO Riverside (DxL to me) is where we always stayed before joining DVC. OKW seems similar in size to POR, but you don't walk to the main building as much. If you have a car, it's right outside your building, and remember, you get coffee right in your villa in the morning-a real plus for us.

I would estimate that it is about the same size as POR, more spread out than POFQ.

There are bus stops spread throughout the resort, and each bus stops at the main area before leaving the property, so you really don't ever have to walk any great distance. By the same token, if you are someone who likes to walk, OKW has some lovely grounds and walking paths.

Thank you for your responses. I didn't realize that the buses all stop at HH before leaving. I hadn't thought of picking one of them up if I needed to. :)
We are staying in a studio for this trip and are used to going to the main area for breakfast, drinks etc at the resort hotels. Newbie's in the DVC! Thankfully we have all of you experienced folks to calm our nerves and get us through!! :sunny:

Don't fret, you are just going to love it. All the concerns that new DVC people have, no housekeeping, not as many restaurants, will quickly go away. It won't take you long to discover that a studio at any DVC is far better than any regular resort room.

Yes it is spread out, we were just there last week and had a studio in building 55 (botton right corner of the map). We never swam at the big pool, just our little one. Also, if we wanted to go to the hospitality house we just hopped whatever bus came to the South Point bus stop first. With that said though, we did find that if you walk at a fairly brisk pace it's faster to just walk to the HH>

If you want to head back from the main pool area, you can "go out the back" and wait for a bus at the Peninsular Road stop that will take you to South Point or Old Turtle Pond. Buses seem to come more frequently in that direction and you don't have to wait for a specific "internal" bus at HH.
