I keep hearing and reading about the bad breath caused by low carb diets. I don't know what my own breath smells like, generally, so I was wondering if anyone else has had some experiences in this are to share.

I sure hope I am not offending everyone I speak to.

What do you do to counteract this?

The bad breath is a good thing - because it means that you're burning fat!! And, it's not really that bad - just carry some sugar free mints/gum with you. And, it goes away after awhile - it doesn't stay the whole time. Don't worry - I'd rather have bad breath for awhile, and know that I'm losing weight!! ::yes::

Is that also why water tasted so funny for a while?? I love water but I couldn't drink it very much because it tasted awful. It seemed to go away though...

As far as I know, I never had the "ketosis" breath. I didn't notice my husband having "bad breath" either but perhaps it's because we were both in ketosis so we didn't notice and our friends were too polite to say anything?

It shouldn't last too long, though.

Your body has a couple ways of eliminating the byproducts of burning fat for fuel. One is through your urine and another is through your lungs. I've always understood that if you are drinking lots of water, most of the bad stuff will be flushed out through your urine and you won't have ketosis breath.

Just another good reason to drink, drink, drink that water!! :p
