Just had an accident with my Toyota Camry

I am still shaking and freaked out. I was stopping at an intersection with my foot on the brake, not the gas and my car lurched forward and hit the car in front of my car and lurched again and just kept hitting her car and bouncing off. I was pressing on the brake as hard as I could and my car finally stalled out. Luckily there wasn't much damage done due to us both having bumpers that are pretty much plastic and flexible. But she has a Toyota emblem imprinted on her bumper and I have her license plate frame with the words imprinted backwards on my bumper. I think it was a good thing too that there wasn't much distance between us before impacting because if my car had gotten up any more speed it would have pushed her out into oncoming traffic. I just took the car in last week for the acceleration recall and now I am afraid to drive it. I called the dealership and had a tow truck come and get it. I need to calm down now so I can figure out what to do because I do not want that car back. It was like it was possessed. I've owned Toyotas before and usually have been very happy with them.

Well, I'm sure when you make a claim to Toyota, as you should, they will take your car in for testing to see what happened.

Did they fix it? Sounds like you have a pretty good claim with them if they say they did.

how scary! but glad everyone is okay and hopefully, the dealership will find out what is going on with the car!

We have a Toyota Corolla and I hate to drive it. I used to love it cause the gas mileage was so good but now I feel like I am taking my life in my hands everytime I get behind the wheel. And, yes, we had the recall repair done.

I did hear on the news last week that Toyota owners complained their cars were worse AFTER they did the recall fix.

That's really scary. I would not want it back either. What year is it?

this is why we traded in my camry for a honda. We had gotten the camry to replace my accord that was totaled and we had not been comnpletely happy with it (it was kicking back, didnt seem to handle bumps well, etc) but I thoght it was just me because it always passed inspection but once the recall came out, we decided it wasnt worth the risk so we got rid of it and i'm so glad we did. We don't have a car sittign in the driveway that no one will drive.

They are going to check it out and see if they can tell what happened. I guess I have to trust them to tell me the truth if they find out that maybe they didn't do the repair properly or something. I don't know. Up until now I have really liked this car. Now I just don't think I will feel comfortable driving it unless they can convince me that they know what happened and can truly correct the problem this time. I actually took it in for two recall letters I got last week, one was the acceleration problem and one was the floor mat thing so maybe it is possible that the mechanics filled out the paperwork that they corrected both and only did one. I wouldn't know how to doublecheck their work myself. And I wouldn't feel comfortable selling the car to someone else either.

It is a 2007 and I almost have it paid off. Now I am afraid it is pretty much worthless.

Did it ever happen before? I have a 2003 and it's not on the recall list but I still wonder. I've never had any indication of a problem.

I am also very glad that I and the other driver are okay and I am especially glad that there were no pedestrians in the crosswalk today because at certain times of the day there are a lot of people crossing the street and I am so glad we did not hit anyone.

How terrifying!

I think it's going to come out before long that the "repair" doesn't really fix the problem. That's going to be a huge nightmare for Toyota. I read somewhere that if it becomes clear that it's actually a problem with the car's electronics, the cost to Toyota will just be unfathomable.

Toyota must know that there are more and more reports of post-recall repair incidents. I don't know that I'd trust the dealership to be completely honest about what happened. I wouldn't feel comfortable driving the car again.

oh my, so glad that you're okay. That must've been scary. Glad that you're okay.

I wanted to add that I'm really glad everyone is okay. The lady in front of you must have thought you were insane (until she saw you were in a recalled car).

It never happened before and I never had any problems. It seems very strange to me that this happened a week after the recall repair was supposed to be done.

The lady in front of me didn't understand at first why I was so upset about such a minor accident until I explained to her the absolute panic I was in because I could not make my car stop and it was very fortunate for me that she was there to block me. She was even going to just go on her way as her only damage was the Toyota emblem imprinted on her bumper and she had prior damage to her car so she didn't really care and I told her that I really need to report this accident. I felt bad for keeping her there because she obviously needed to go somewhere but the police came very quickly and she got to leave very soon after. My insurance will probably buy her a new bumper now and I have a very high deductible so that means I will be buying her bumper and I am sure my rates will go up as well. But the important thing is we are both safe because I know some people have had some really bad accidents due to this problem.

At least she'll be able to testify that the OP hit her repeatedly.

YIKES! Glad you are all OK physically! I agree, while unfortunate that this happened, the other driver can indeed verify that your car kept lurching!

Whew! I've got a 1999 Camry, and we've never had a problem. DH was after me to trade it in, but I'm so afraid that there might be a problem if I did. Does anyone know how many years back this acceleration problem has been discovered? Or is it only on the 2010 models? And I didn't know, is it also possible on Corollas?
