Just had an accident with my Toyota Camry

This is all so scary. I read that Toyota's sales actually increased recently which seems very odd.

Well, this is becoming a giant headache. Toyota is not willing to do anything until they have an engineer look at the car and that will take about 74 days because they are backlogged right now with claims. In the meantime I am without a car. My insurance won't pay a dime until we settle with Toyota and Toyota is willing to rent me a vehicle for $35/day. How generous! So I have nothing to drive and I still have to make my payments and pay insurance. This is so frustrating.

The EXACT same thing happened to my friend. She had a 2007 Camry and said that the car felt possessed. She didn't "lose control", wasn't texting, etc.. the car simply just freaked out. She smashed into a wall. It was terrifying.

Strangely enough her air bags didn't come out at all...

Her car was totaled but thankfully she was unhurt. She and I both have decided we will never buy a Toyota. That was just too scary.

OP- glad you're safe!

Keep every receipt and write down every inconvenience. You never know if you'll need it.

I am still shaking and freaked out. I was stopping at an intersection with my foot on the brake, not the gas and my car lurched forward and hit the car in front of my car and lurched again and just kept hitting her car and bouncing off. I was pressing on the brake as hard as I could and my car finally stalled out. Luckily there wasn't much damage done due to us both having bumpers that are pretty much plastic and flexible. But she has a Toyota emblem imprinted on her bumper and I have her license plate frame with the words imprinted backwards on my bumper. I think it was a good thing too that there wasn't much distance between us before impacting because if my car had gotten up any more speed it would have pushed her out into oncoming traffic. I just took the car in last week for the acceleration recall and now I am afraid to drive it. I called the dealership and had a tow truck come and get it. I need to calm down now so I can figure out what to do because I do not want that car back. It was like it was possessed. I've owned Toyotas before and usually have been very happy with them.

I am sorry to hear you had an accident.

I have read that many cars that had the "fix" were still having problems. Good luck.

I will say the bolded part did have me :rotfl: .

How terrifying!

I think it's going to come out before long that the "repair" doesn't really fix the problem. That's going to be a huge nightmare for Toyota. I read somewhere that if it becomes clear that it's actually a problem with the car's electronics, the cost to Toyota will just be unfathomable.

Toyota must know that there are more and more reports of post-recall repair incidents. I don't know that I'd trust the dealership to be completely honest about what happened. I wouldn't feel comfortable driving the car again.

NASA engnineers are now looking at the electronics. It certainly points to an electronic problem. This could be very costly in both $$$ and reputation if this problem is really in the electronics.

OP, You might try asking for a manager and talking to them about getting a free rental till they fix things. I would explain this is a way to keep you as a satisfied customer and that it is their fault that it will take so long to get to your car. Not that you have to ever buy a Toyota again but they may work with you to keep you happy. Hopefully, they won't rent you a recalled Toyota.

I have a 2007 Corolla that thankfully has not been on recall and I have had no issues except with the floor mat hook coming out and the mat moving but ironically that is not on recall. I finally bought replacement tinkerbell mats and threw the Toyota ones in the garage.

Good luck to you. Keep us updated on what traspires.

I'm so glad that you're okay, but in all honesty, if I had one of these Toyotas that were being recalled for these issues there is NO way in heck you would get me behind the wheel - or even in the car as a passenger..

It's despicable what this company has done - and is continuing to do..:sad2:
