I am freaking out a little here. My hair is dark brown. I just got blonde highlights today. I am a little worried that my hair will turn green. My stylist told me I will be fine, if i wash when i am done swimming. Normally I do that anyways, maybe not right after , but an hour or so. But after reading the internet, I am very worried. We leave for Disney next weekend, and plan to swim daily!! Any advice!!:scared::scared:

Umm, I have being getting blonde highlights for the past 10 years, swim all the time (sometimes wash my hair afterwards), and never worried or even heard that your hair can turn green because of it.

I don't know if this makes a difference, but I have brown hair as well, but it naturally "highlights" when I'm in the sun. However, since I started working about 10 years ago and never actually seeing the sun, I need a little "help" to get my "natural" look. So, my stylist doesn't use any bleach to do my highlights he uses something else -- which I don't think you can use if you don't naturally lean towards blond if pushed. :)

Good luck, and as long as you went to a reputable place I'm sure you will be fine.

I asked my girl last year before we left and she said I'd be fine but to wet my hair down with regular water before getting in the pool. Then your hair will absorb the reg water and not the pool water. Less damage to your hair then absorbing all the pool water. I didn't have any problems with my color.

My hair is dark brown with blonde highlights too. I've been in the pool several times and no green. I wouldn't fret.

Generally, naturally blond hair may turn green from chlorine. It is easily removed with a good shampoo (they make swimmer shampoos and sell them at any grocery store). Hilighted hair does not turn green.

I'd be more concerned with your hilights turning brassy. Make sure you wear a hat or scarf over your hair in the sun.

a few pieces of advice...For the pool wet your hair down with regular water first.Your hair won't absorb as much chlorine. Second, Buy a Uv protecting spray for being in the sun.Loreal Everpure makes one and it is about $6 at the drug store.Third, I use Lanza Sun care shampoo and conditioner. It is expensive but worth it.I am sure there is something similar that is drug store brand

Like the others I have had highlights for years and I have never ever had a problem with them turning green! Just have a fantastic time and don't give it another thought!!

I'm a hairstylist.....the PP that said hi-lighted hair can't turn green from chlorine....sorry but it can.

In general, you would need to be in the pool for several hours every day for that to happen. This is the sort of thing that happens to people that teach swimming or are competitive swimmers.

Yes...wet your hair before getting in the pool
Yes...wash after, or at the very least a good rinse with clean water.

The best product I have ever seen to deal with swimmers hair is Joico Phine. It can be a little on the pricey side but you only need a very small amount. All professional products are concentrated and the majority over use them.

Also, it doesn't turn bright 'green'. You will have a greenish cast to it. Sometimes the average person can't really tell that it has happened. It may look very drab and greyish.

Your not a marathon swimmer, put it OUT of your mind!

I have hi-lighted my hair for years...I have a pool in my yard. I am not a marathon swimmer and I am here to tell you that they may not turn green, but they can get brassy looking from the chlorine as well.I have had mine do both. I personally wouldn't stress per se. But I would take some precaution since highlights are not cheap by any stretch.
