Just returned with DN(iece) from the World on Saturday, 8/16 after being there for a week. When I have more time I will do a trip report, but for now I just wanted to mention a few things.

Hotel: We stayed at All Star Movies, and feeling like I had read more negative than positive feedback about this hotel, I was wary about staying there but it was fine for us. Bus service was pretty regular, it was nicely themed and clean. The Mousekeepers did their thing, putting my niece's stuffed toys in the window and having Mickey and Minnie watch tv one day! The only thing that bothered me were noisy next door neighbors (there is no soundproofing on those double connected doors) and the turbo flush of the toilets.

Weather: Very mild the first two days, so much so that we didn't feel the need to go back to the hotel and rest. Hot and rainy the rest of the week, daily rest breaks needed.

Must see entertainment: In addition to the nighttime shows, my must see shows are Beauty and the Beast at MGM and Lion King Celebration at AK. There is something about a lot of people on stage at one time doing all those choreographed moves that gets me every time. I could have watched them again and again and again.

Character Meals: We did the Princess Breakfast in Norway. The food was okay, and the Princesses came over quick, but they literally only spent about 30 seconds each with my niece before they rushed off. That part was disappointing. We saw Belle, Mulan, Jasmine, Aurora and Mary Poppins (didn't know they considered her a Princess). We also did Ice Cream Social at the Land in Epcot. That was good and the characters spent more time with my niece, even coming back twice. Also went to Chef Mickey's at Contemporary for their character dinner. We had a 5:00 PS, the earliest possible. I highly recommend doing 5:00. You get first crack a the buffet with no lines, and the characters come by in no time at all, since it's not crowded yet. My niecelovedthe celebration they do when they twirl their napkins over their heads every 40 minutes - the look on her face was priceless, got some great shots of that.

Items lost and found- Lost a camera at the store at the hotel but got it the next morning, lost a penny press book at MGM but got it later at the store we knew we left it in, lost a wallet (very scary few moments) at AK, left it at the stroller rental and they still had it. Thank Heaven.

Best Pictures - the ones with the characters that aren't posed. I got some great shots of my niece watching the characters as they signed her book, of them playing with her hair and being silly with her before we took the actual posed picture.

More later on the trip report forum - any questions?

You have a VERY lucky little niece. How wonderful that you could share this special time together. And, good for you not letting the rain and humidity spoil your fun. I bet this was a trip filled with memories she will always cherish!

Sounds like you had a great time! Did you notice the park crowds thinning out in the evening at all after taking your afternoon break?

It's hard to say whether the crowds thinned out. We were usually WITH the crowds on the evenings we were there, waiting for Fantasmic, Spectromagic, and Illuminations. Waiting for Fantasmic was fun, because EVERYONE did the wave over and over and over!

Another thing I wanted to mention was that we did do Mission: Space and even though I followed all the guidelines (be very still, look straight ahead), I still felt immensely sick afterwards. My niece didn't care for it too much either.

Also,
Things we missed but wanted to do: Tarzan Rocks and Rafiki's Planet Watch in AK, Cinderella's Surprise Celebration and Goofy's Dance Party in MK, The Living Seas and Honey I Shrunk the Audience in Epcot, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Disney Animation and Walt's Story in MGM. I also wanted to do spend more time in the countries in Epcot, but I knew she wouldn't stand for that (she's 7) so we only did Norway and Mexico (due to the fact that they had boat rides.)

MamaQuack, thanks for your kind words. I have tried to be a good Auntie to her, she hasn't had an easy life, but she sure had a blast on this trip!
