Just got back from seeing Nanny McPhee...

I wouldn't say this was a "gril" movie. I took my sweetpea and my nephew10 to see it yesterday. They both enjoyed it. I think him more than her. I liked it. I wouldn't have chosen to see it if I was alone and not with the kids though.

I might have enjoyed it more it the audience had been a bit different. I know it happens in kids movies, but some parents just let their kids have free reign and its bothersome. Plus, there were a few "odd" people there as well who gave off the "chester" vibe.

:thumbsup2 My 1st grader & I just saw it. It WAS very good! A lesson for all. The theator was sold out. I can't remember the last time I went to a movie that was sold out.

I took my DD, 15, and a girlfriend that was staying this weekend, 13. They both really liked it. I did too but I think I was expecting more. It may be because I am feeling a bit under the weather. The theater was packed at the 11:30 AM show. But....it was almost all much younger kids, preschoolers, and girls. I was surprised at that.

We just saw it this afternoon and loved it! Even my DH liked it! I highly recommend it!

For those having a problem with the way Nanny looks--Why are her looks so important to you?

It's not her big nose or even that Emma Thompson is made to look ugly. I'm sure her appearance and perhaps a change in it is a big part of the story. It's just that tooth - a tooth like no tooth I've ever seen on a real person. A low-tech special effect, right there staring viewers in the face just begging for people to stare back at it.

I don't have kids and don't really expect to go see this movie. But if watching clips on TV is any indication, if I did go see the movie I'd be so distracted by The Tooth that it would drive me absolutely crazy and it would be hard for me to enjoy the movie.

You are totally right. As to the way she looks well lets face it if you want it to be a fairy tale type story then you want the ugly woman to turn into the beautiful princess. Sorry, that is the way of this genre so that is the reason so many of us are hung up on the way she looks. It is supposed to take us AWAY from reality not rub it in our faces (no pun intened). If I read a romance story I NEVER imagine the herione to be ugly ....does anyone else?

It is a rare movie that all of us (me, DW, DS6, DD8) enjoy. This is one of those movies. It's a fine fairy tale. We went this afternoon; the theater (biggest one in the multiplex) was SRO 5 minute before the previews started. Everyone seemed to be loving the movie -as did our family. I won't give away any surprises, but it really is worth the money for you and your family to go.

Just got back from seeing the movie. I thought it was very good! My kids are 11 and 15 and they liked it and I think what I really enjoyed was listening the to much younger viewers giggling and laughing at the funny parts. My kids are past the giggling stage....but listening to the others was almost as good as listening to babies giggle.
I would recommend going to see the movie!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Two thumbs up!!!

But did Colin Firth look hot?

Oh yeah! My kids were in shock that I kept going on about how dreamy I thought he was. But I know it is because I can't help but see and hear Mr. Darcy whenever he speaks. Be still my heart!

They did notice that he was "that guy" from "mommy's movie" ( talking about my newly purchased dvd set of Pride and Prejudice)

We all thought it was a really good movie, even DH.

I too thought I might have trouble with the tooth, but I really didn't keep noticing it as the movie went along. I would definitely recommend it.

The whole family loved it! The theatre was huge and almost sold out at the early Sunday movie. The only thing that drove me batty was that the oldest boy was in "Love Actually"...he doesn't look older to me in this at all. Does anyone know if they filmed this quite some time ago? Don't know why it bugged me, but it really did! Awesome movie! :)

Oh Colin Firth, I love him so. I will surely be seeing it for the Firthness of it!!! :)

LOL!!!

I just rented "Love actually". I never realized he was in that too. I hope DH doesn't catch on. Maybe he'll just think I'm into English films!

My gf and I saw it today. We both really enjoyed it! It was cute and heartwarming. Going to get the DVD when it comes out.

Saw this right after it came to our theater. Good movie, but all through it (I am a HUGE HUGE HUGE Mary Poppins fan) I could not help but keep thinking,
"Omg, they took that from Poppins... (10 minutes later)...Poppins...(lol) ...(5 minutes later)...Poppins!" :rotfl2:

btw, I was in shock when I saw her at the end - omg she's so pretty after staring at that tooth for about an hour and a half! (Honestly I didn't care about her looks that much)

But wasn't the lady who played Evangilene (?) WONDERFUL? I'm sitting in the theatre and thinking (shocked) "she looks like Laura Michelle Kelly!" :bitelip:

I can't wait to go and see it.....maybe next weekend when my daughter is home from University..... :)

I've been avoiding this thread all week because I didn't want to see anything related to the movie.

It was great!!! DD and I really enjoyed it. Emma Thompson is one of my favorites, although I always loved her best with her ex-hubby.

It was a smart move casting Colin Firth for the mommies. :thumbsup2

We saw it today. It was my 2 girls, my sister and her 2 boys ages almost 6 and 3 and my aunt and grandma. We ALL enjoyed the movie very very much. Even the 3 year old sat there and watched it all. I love Emma Thompson too...
