Ok, everyone is different, but NEVER AGAIN! I tried to keep a positive attitude, but it is just too long. All I kept thinking about was "WE would have been there already on a plane." Naturally the drive home was even more difficult than the drive down. Anyway, if you have questions, I'll be happy to answer them.

I totally agree. We did it once and I said NEVER AGAIN It was hellish:mad: Especially with 3 kids. Now that being said, if I can't find good airfare for November we may actually do it again. It would either be drive or not go. I am hoping for some good airfares.

If you wouldn't mind driving to Michigan and taking a flight from there, you prbably get a decent deal. We're flying out of ther in Oct. and for the 3 of us it was only $494, I've been checking and they've only gone up a little since I booked. It's worth a try!!

I have to agree that if it drive or don't go I would do the drive again, but I would exhaust ever possible option before doing that. I'll hope for some good airfares for you!

Well... we begin our drive from CT in about 4 hours.

It really isn't that bad. We have 2 kids (9 & 6), a tv in the van, gameboys, and food.

We did it last April and it really wasn't that bad for me, the main driver.

Wish us luck!!

I drove to WDW in March for the first time.

I live in Texas and work for an airline and get flights for free.
Only catch is that they are standby. When we booked our trip back in Jan, we tried to buy seats but the flights were oversold.

I grew up spoiled. My dad worked for the same airline and whenever we wanted to go somewhere, we jumped on a plane.
Get good grades on the report card and parents would take us to California for the weekend (we lived in Washington DC area)

We drove it and I have to tell you that I loved it. It was fun and I look forward to do it again. Seeing the countryside at 80mph was fun. Wife and I would alternate driving. Id jump in the back seat and watch movies with my son. She would do the same thing.

If Ive only got a limited amount of time, Id fly.

Driving is definitely an adventure. We have done it twice and driven through the night both times so it's easier on the kids. I think it would have been ok except that we ran into problems both times. The first time we did it, we were making great time. When we got to route 4 there was a terrible fatal car crash. We were literally parked for four hours while they airlifted victims. We didn't mind the delay; we were just so sorry for that family. The second time we drove down, we went to Key Largo first (from NJ). This was not a good idea. It took us 32 hours straight because we hit so much traffic in just about every state. The worst was Virginia. I was the night driver. I was stuck in one spot in that state from 1 am until 4:30 am. A traffic jam is bad enough but one at this time is torture. It was all because they had closed two lanes for apparently no reason at all. When I reached the end of the traffic, there was a bunch of cones and one guy directing us. No road work, no accident - nothing. Oh yes, with every long drive comes the stories. I could go on, but I've taken up enough of everyone's time.

we just returned from a trip to Virginia Beach. Only 6 hours but I told DH when we got there that if it had been 1 hour more we'd of had to move there cause I WAS NOT driving back!!!! ::yes::

oh, did I mention that all 3 dd's get car sick? no one actually hurled on this trip but there was a lot of moaning and groaning going on. :(

We fly to florida. (Unfortunetly dd's get queasie on planes too but atleast the flight is only 2.5 hours) This family could never survive the drive.

It's great that you all make such an adventure out of it. Lots of great memories I'm sure! :sunny:

Remember everyone is different. We took our minivan with only 4 passangers so the kids each got a whole bench to themselves. We have a vcr/tv in the van. The kids took books, discman's, gameboys, etc. The kids were great. They had no complaints. We had a cooler in the car with snacks and drinks. We ran into no traffic at all. But I will still never do it again.

It just takes too long for me. I have driven 10 hours to NC and had no problem, but this was too much. MY DH and I alternated driving and it was still too much. We even stopped over both ways to break up the driving.

IMHO, there is not much to see but trees. The arches into South Carolina are pretty and the palm trees enterieng Gerogia were nice too.

But again to each their own. I read the feedback before we decided to drive and choose to try it. I'd be happy to answer any other questions.
