Hey everyone, after a very long wait, and sending in rehire paperwork... I was just accepted for Fall Advantage 2012 as Custodial. going rate $7.67 an hour.

Now back in 2007 I left early and this was why I had to fill out rehire paperwork. I'm guessing my status was lifted because I was extended an offer of employment.

My dilemma however is, I am currently working for a company making $12.02 an hour. I have found my self in some credit card debt, which I would like to get out of ASAP, and I am also looking to save for an engagement ring! Leaving my current job would mean a pretty hefty pay cut.

I am not sure if accepting the DCP is the smartest thing for me to do. I wanted to go for a chance to network and be able to hopefully find myself a full time position up in Orlando.

Any advice would be most appreciated!

Thanks in advanced!

As great as an opportunity to do the CP would be for networking, I think right now you should probably focus on getting out of debt. Going from $12 to $7 an hour is a LARGE pay cut, and you've gotta make sure you can buy a great engagement ring! Is this the last semester that you can participate in the program? Because if not, I would say to just reapply when money isn't so tight.

I'm slated to graduated June 2013, so I believe I still have some time for a CP.

Also does anyone know if since I filled out the rehire paperwork and was offered a position, my status has been lifted and I am now clear to be rehired when applying for the company? Or will declining this position put be back on that list.

If your plans are ultimately made that you'll decline their offer, why not tell them the situation and see if they'll offer more? I don't believe that a counter offer is ever off the table..

Declining the college program will not hurt your chances later on. Just make sure that you physically hit "decline" and don't just not respond to the offer of employment. I talked to a recruiter about this and he said it is totally fine as long you respond.

I applied for last spring, interviewed, and got in, but declined because I wanted to finish school first. When I interviewed for this coming Fall they asked about why i declined in my interview, but I just explained how it wasn't good timing for me. So if you decline and interview later, you will have a chance to tell your side of the story.

It sounds like you have plenty of time to think it over and try the program down the road, so my advice is that you get your finances in order now and let Disney be a little reward for when you get out of debt :)

That is a sticky situation...i would say create a budget and try to project what things will look like. I will say this, you don't want to miss out on an opportunity like this. You're young and can pay off the debt down the road. You have to think about how your expenses are going to change too. Since housing is pretty cheap, you might be able to save more and the pay cut wont be as dramatic. Now since you want to buy an engagement ring, that might change your decision. Im in the same boat...want to get a ring this year and going to do the CP. I'll see how things turn out....best of luck on your decision

That's another thing! right now I live with my parents so though housing is cheap, I don't pay for really anything but myself now. Plus its 300 dollar deposit, which I was planning on laying on my credit cards. I guess I will decline this one but I really do hope for the next one, that I am in a different situation and can experience the program :)

Thank you all so much for the kind replies. They all helped me out a whole lot!!

I am in 100 percent the exact same situation as you are! It's kind of weird. I mean I didn't apply yet but it's because I need to get out of credit card debt which imo is WAY more important to me than working at Disney. You have to be financially stable to work for the CP or really Disney in general.

Since you mention "engagement ring" I think this is something that should also be discussed with the ring recipient. Since you are that close with someone your future is that person's future as well.

I must say I am suprised at the amount they would pay you. I did the DCP in 1999 and my pay was only slightly lower than that. It would seem that Disney is not keeping up with inflation. To put it in perspective, the summer before I left I could remember paying $.87 per gallon for gas!

Personally I would not want to go to Disney with debt. I know my situation was unique but I racked up debt while I was there. After one week I was injured. I was not injured on the job, but I was injured during hurricane Floyd which at the time was headed straight for Orlando. DCP was good enough to work with me but for a while I was not working so I wasn't making money and I still had to live. And they were still tallying up my housing costs. So even when I was working it seems I was working to pay that off. It took quite a while to catch up.

Like I said, my situation was unique, but you never know what unforeseen things may happen. I certainly did not sign up for a dibilitating accident.

Best of luck with what you decide. Whatever you choose you can make it work out the best for you!

I would just give up on disney. From 12$ to 7$, that's a wide gap. Debt and engagement ring, not to mention your other expenses are just enough reasons to prevent you from doing the unthinkable.

Thats horrible advice...just because it's hard doesn't mean he has to "give up".

I disagree. Disney has set rates with their CP's. This is not a salary job. Your job offer is a non negotiable hourly rate.

If you apply, you can ask for QSFB, They pay the most out of all the CP positions. When I was there is was about 9 dollars an hour. Credit card debit is non forgivable debt so I would get it settled before you get to Disney. Although, there are opportunities to extend a program or apply for a PI, which may make more money.. it just depends what you apply for.
