Husband's cousin just took her kids to Disneyland for the first time yesterday and got her daughter a personalized parasol from the cart in New Orleans Square. Any thoughts on this? Worth the money? Cousin is wonderful but will likely be overtly positive about the experience. Would love some more objective feedback! We will be in the Happiest Place on Earth in ONE MONTH! :o Time FLEW by!

Thanks in advance. :)

I got my daughter one from a similar cart in WDW last year.

Definitely worth it. I'm getting myself one when we go back this year.

I got one of those at the DLR when I was a kid like 20 years ago. I still use it to this day!! Very worth it and so cute.

My 12 year old daughter bought one in February. They will custom paint any design for an extra $5 I think, as well as your name and some flowers. It was about $20

Thanks everyone! This was really helpful. Awesome to hear that they hold up for so long! Definitely something we will keep in mind when we are deciding on souvenirs. :D

We got one for DD7 last Summer..she still loves it and has it displayed in her bedroom! Can't remember the price but it wasn't expensive and the quality was decent! We ordered and came back to pick it up in 10 minutes. One of my daughter's favorite souvenirs by far!

My friends and I got one for our fellow friend for her birthday last Sept. She LOVES Mary Poppins so we got her a white one with a red design in every other panel and her name on it. We all Dis-bounded the next day as Mary Poppins so she used her parasol. Here is a picture of us, with her on the right.

I have also had mine for over 20 years. I remember playing with it a ton as a child, for dress-up and have kept it for the fond memories. I may actually invest in a new one during our next trip.

I wish I still had mine from my childhood. We've bought both ours daughters one on each of their first trips. They're displayed in their bedroom. I think it's a great souvenir and really not that expensive.

I forgot to mention that if you have something painted on the parasol (roses, horse, name, etc), you have to allow several hours, as I recall, for the paint to dry before you can use it. I would get it on the first day of your trip if you can.

They charge for each extra picture so to keep the cost down, limit how many (if any) of those you put on. We were told most people "put something in each panel," but we didn't and I don't think it's necessary and very possibly isn't true. If you add $5 for putting a name or picture in each of 8 panels, that is no longer an inexpensive item!

This is a wonderful picture, and literally made me smile:) Thanks for sharing!

I wanted to get one of these the last 2 years going but always found something I wanted more. This year for sure I am getting one!

I realize these are most likely primarily for souvenirs, but if you bought one for practical purposes -- the ones in the photos look pretty sheer ... anyone know how effective these are at blocking the sun, if you wanted to actually use one while you're there on a hot day? Not sure where you would put one while going on a ride?

Just to note...in the picture above, only the parasol on the far right was from the cart. My friend (Disneyluvr2) is the one holding it, and maybe she can say how effective it was. It was super hot that day and she used it a lot. I don't think it was too hard to fold up for rides, either. Here's a pic with it shut:

Shannon006, thank you so much for your sweet comment! :flower3:

I love these photos! It looks like you all had a wonderful time. I have always wanted a parasol. Maybe next trip!

Yes.

I bought mine at WDW, and I had to go back to pick it up, after giving it enough time to dry. And it was going to be something like 48 more hours before the paint would be fully waterproof, so I made sure to not take it if I thought it was going to rain before that time was up.

Mine is baby blue, and I felt that it kept the sun off me. More so than without the parasol, at least!

The pic is absolutely adorable!!!

Can anyone tell me the color options for the larger parasols? I'm headed to DLR and with the heat I think I'd love one, but I'm not a fan of traditional "girl" colors.

One note: The cart is run by a vendor, not Disney. They do not take Disney gift cards.

They have several of colors, pastels and primary , they even have black.

They can paint princesses or Villains, names or designs.

The cart is ran by a mother daughter team, very nice ladies.

ETA: I believe the parasol is 17 and each design is additional 5 , they can do up to six...
