Okay, since it seems that there is going to be another Disney Cruise ship in the sometime near future, I thought it would be fun to take guesses on names for the ship.

I know that there is already a Cruise Ship out there named the Fantasy, but I would love to see a Disney Fantasy cruise ship.

Any other ideas for names, or guesses as to what it may end up being?

I don't think you'll see a Disney Fantasy, Disney Celebration, or Disney Dream as long as there's a Carnival Fantasy, Carnival Celebration, and a Norwegian Dream.

I don't think you'll see a Chevrolet Mustang as long as there's a Ford Mustang.

Here are some of the cruise ship names that are already taken. I've "bolded" some of the names that might go well with Disney -- but that Disney is unlikely to use.

Carnival Cruise Line
  • Celebration
  • Conquest
  • Destiny
  • Ecstasy
  • Elation
  • Fantasy
  • Fascination
  • Holiday
  • Imagination
  • Inspiration
  • Jubilee
  • Paradise
  • Pride
  • Sensation
  • Spirit
  • Triumph
  • Victory
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL)
  • Dream
  • Majesty
  • The Norway
  • Sea
  • Sky
  • Sun
  • Wind
  • Star
Royal Caribbean Cruises
  • Adventure Of The Seas
  • Brilliance Of The Seas
  • Enchantment Of The Seas
  • Explorer Of The Seas
  • Grandeur Of The Seas
  • Legend Of The Seas
  • Majesty Of The Seas
  • Monarch Of The Seas
  • Nordic Empress
  • Radiance Of The Seas
  • Rhapsody Of The Seas
  • Sovereign Of The Seas
  • Splendour Of The Seas
  • Viking Serenade
  • Vision Of The Seas
  • Voyager Of The Seas
Celebrity Cruises
  • Horizon
  • Zenith
  • Century
  • Galaxy
  • Mercury
  • Millennium
  • Infinity
  • Summit
  • Constellation
Passengers and crew tend to use the short name, not the full name. And how often do people write about the "Magic" rather than the "Disney Magic" on this board?

Would it be a good idea for Carnival to launch the Carnival Magic and the Carnival Wonder? I don't think that will happen either.

Seabourn Cruise Line operates the Seabourn Sun, Seabourn Pride, Spirit and Legend -- not to be confused with the Norwegian Sun, Carnival Pride, Aegean Spirit, or the Legend Of The Seas. (But Seabourn isn't a mainstream, mid-market cruise line like DCL, NCL, Royal Caribbean, and Celebrity.) So there are certainly cases when cruise ships have similar names.

The real question is whether Disney Cruise Line would want to use a word that's already associated with another cruise line as the name for a new ship. My guess is that they wouldn't.

(This posting is based on several postings that I made last year.)

Other names that have been mentioned on this board:

-- Disney Dreams (with an s on the end)
-- Disney Fantasia
-- Disney Animation
-- Disney Classic

Music
Fantasy
Dreams
Imagination

along with Magic & Wonder that makes up the 6 units of Spectromagic so they should be looking at 4 new ships!

Disney Fantasmic (Don't they own that name?)
Disney Reflections
Disney Tradition
Disney Charm

Regardless of the name, I'm just hoping for a West Coast ship. This is a fun thread though.

I really like:
DREAMS
FANTASIA

...but, how about:
SEA
MOUSE

Tina :bounce:
Magic Western 1/18/03

I like the Disney Charm....I have not heard that one mentioned before!!!! Thanks Trishy!!!

Hehe... that last one just made me think about having a Coke and a smile ;)

Okay, I do not really think DCL would use

Charm, Tradition, Classic, Reflection

Those just don't sound Disney for me, They all evoke images of Thanksgiving Dinner at Grandmothers house, not the excitement and cutting edge of DISNEY!

Now, Disney is all about DREAMS come true... It would be the most fantastic name for a Disney Ship!!! ( I just do not like the 's' on the end???) I was wondering, just how old is the Norwegian Dream??? Looks to be a while before any new ship comes to reality for DCL. And, NCL would not re-use the name.

Hands down, I think FANTASIA is the best new, unused name thought of here!

The Disney Fantasia. Boy, that would be one heck of a ship if the decor followed the name! I can see the Mickey Statue in the lobby now!

I don't see them using "Music" since that's the name of one of the "budget" accommodations at WDW.

The NCL Dream entered service in 1992. She was originally the Dreamward, but her name was shortened as NCL moved towarded a fleet with short, simple names such as Sea, Sky, Sun, Wind and Star. See http://www.ncl.com/fleet/07/07_facts.htm

Actually, cruise lines reuse names all the time. Just a few months ago, the former Renaissance R3 became the new Pacific Princess, replacing the recently retired Pacific Princess (TV's Love Boat). Holland America reused the name Prinsendam, which is surprising because the previous Prinsendam (1972) burned and sank off Alaska in 1980. And the current Norwegian Star (2001) reuses the name of the former Norwegian Star (1973).

Look at the possibilities for Imagination - Figment in the lobby & painting the name on the stern - plus it would be a nice way to pay us back for the torturous removal of him from EPCOT!

And, Dreams is already used as the name of DCLs stage show . . .

Thanks Werner,

I had indeed heard of the Pacific Princess. But that was the only one. Did not know about NCL reusing Star! Guess that was just a tiny bit before my time. (Not that I am getting any younger!!) I suppose they decided to re-use the name since it has been a while?

Still wish DCL could use the name Disney DREAM!

Tsobb,

Imagination does have potential. BUT, no way Disney would use ANY name associated with Carnival cruise line! I think that DCL having such a wonderful and popular stage show called Dreams only illustrates how great of a ship name that would be.

I had to wonder how you would think it would be good for Disney to copy a Carnival Ship name, but then use copying as a reason not to use a really popular DCL cruise line name.... Hhhhmmm???

Sorry to go on here, but another name that would have possibly been GREAT for a Disney ship just hit me. Ships are always refered to as 'she', right... so how about

the Disney Princess

Darn, yet another name already taken by another cruise line!

Now, if Disney just had another ship under construction for us to name!!! It is fun to think about anyhow! :D

When the former Norwegian Star was built in 1973, she was called the Royal Viking Sea and she sailed for Royal Viking Line of Norway. She became the Norwegian Star 1997. In 2000, she became the SuperStar Capricorn, but that didn't last long.

See http://shiplover2.virtualave.net/Malaysia/NorwegianStarI.html

So 1997-2000 was a tiny bit before your time? My, you're young! :D

Nope, not young, just confused!!!
Maybe it's the alzheimers setting in!!! :D :D :D

Think it was seeing the 1973 date that threw me?

Thanks for the details!

PS: I am not too great at thinking out-of-the box. Maybe some of you really creative people can think of some really striking new unique names?

Was just following Dave's train that Disney was already using the name elsewhere.

Hey, another name did come mind....

And, it really really fits in with the Wonder, the Magic, and the JOY of Disney...

A 'Wonderful' cruise on the Wonder
A 'Magical' cruise on the Magic
A 'Joyful' cruise on the the Joy

Okay, sorry, don't laugh!! Maybe that word comes to mind because it is getting too close to Christmas!

And, at the rate Carnival is adding new ships, they will soon have the Pride, and the Joy... Sigh....
