I just ran for lunch. While in the store a woman and young boy (maybe around 10-12yo) were standing in the store eating chocolate donuts. I thought she was in line, but she told me to go on. She said they were eating their donuts there because the boy's mother can't find out that this woman bought him a donut. He cannot have chocolate. I made a comment about not surviving without chocolate, then she said, "Well, he's allergic." :confused3 I minded my own business and said nothing. With all the opinionated people here on the DIS, I know some of you would've spoke up. So, WWYD?

Kept my mouth shut. The idiot lady is obviously unbalanced to give a child something he's allergic to. :sad2:

Hmmm, how's she going to explain his reaction when he has one? I am allergic to chocolate, but it only makes me cough............maybe his is something minor. Still, I'm of the opinion that if you take on the responsibility of someone else's kid, then you follow their rules.

Oh, and by the time I processed what she'd said, I'd be walking out, so I'd have done nothing! Sometimes when someone says something surprising like that, I take a while to examine in my head all the angles and by the time I conclude they really did say what I thought, it's too late to say anything!

I probably would have blurted out instantly (without thinking)... "You gave him something he's allergic too?", & then looking at him "And you ate it?"

If that were my son he'd be in big trouble and the woman would be no friend of mine.

Since my son's allergies are life threatening this wouldn't be a forgivable offense. However, I'm guessing in this case the boy may just have a headache or stomach ache to deal with later.

This is exactly what would happen with me! Of course, once outside the store I would have all sorts of witty comebacks. ;)
