Just Curious..What do you think of the name Jaden for a boy??

I'm thinking it sounds more like Jade, which sounds like a girl's name, especially being a gemstone. I don't like the name Jaden for a girl or a boy, but especially not for a boy.

Now Jade I absolutely love. (for a girl, of course!)

I wouldn't choose it for a boy or a girl. I'm not a fan of names that are new/trendy -- I want a name that can withstand time, and Jaden has not been around long enough to know for sure whether it will be one that will.

Actually, like someone else pointed out, it's an old Hebrew name that means "God has heard." It's only become repopular since the 1990s, though.

I never liked it and like it even less since Brittney and Fed Ex named their latest Jaden.

Ditto. It's trendy and popular and it's going to instantly 'date' whoever has that name- like Jennifer in the 70's.

I didn't know it was an ancient name. I don't love it for the same reasons others have cited: it seems like a new/trendy name and I prefer more traditional names. But it doesn't bug me either.

On the flip side, if it's spelled Jaden then it's fairly easy to spell and pronounce, which are 2 of my criteria for names. The third one is the "playground test"--will other kids make fun of it? Probably not, so it's all good. Wow, I just talked myself into this name.:)

I don't like or dislike the name, but I will tell you this--it's very popular as both a boy's AND girls name. I work with babies and children and this has to be one of the top 20, spelled many different ways--Jaden, Jayden, Jaadin, J'dyn...I always ask: boy or girl. :confused3

As I'm bored this morning.... ;)

Jaden, as a boy's name, was ranked 515 out of 1000 in the 1990s. As a girl's name, it WASN'T ranked. In the 2000s (so far) Jaden has been ranked 97 as a boy's name, and 272 for a girl's name. So it's far more a male name than a female name.

Isn't that the name of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith's son?

Just did a google and I was right. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's son's name is Jaden.

I don't like it for a couple reasons:

1. My cousin's husband insists all their kids have names that start with "J." He's a real paranoid anti-social type; I'm not very fond of him. Their 7th kid is "Jaedon," and he's adorable. However, I associate the name with the father so it's a real negative for me.

2. Despite any history behind it, IMO, the name comes across as a trendy fad.

I dislike it for a boy or a girl. I do like Jade, Jada, and Giada though.
Jaden is very trendy, and should not be compared with the biblical Jadon, just as Aidan should not be compared with Aiden. Unfortunately in getting caught up with "being different," people forget that the spelling of a name is often as historically important as its meaning.

There are a few Jaden's & Kadens around (boys) , neither name is very attractive IMO.

Just did a google and I was right. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's son's name is Jaden.

I can see this, though. Naming a child after one or both parents is a traditional thing to do in a lot of families. Jada...Jaden.

However, I agree with most here. I don't like it for either gender. To me, even though someone quoted it as a Biblical name, it sounds made up.

Many girls around here are named Jaden. In fact, its pretty popular within the African american families here.
