Of course, I know Savannah is closer and thus, preferrable to CHS. But I was wondering, how much more would you be willing to pay to fly into SavannahThe reason this came up is that in the past, Savannah has cost about $200 PP more! So flying to Charleston is a no-brainer. However, for this next trip, the increase in cost would be $120-for the two of us-to fly to Savannah. So my question is, would you pay $120 more for your family to fly to Savannah when going to HHI? I also have no idea how the cost of rental cars compares from the two airports. Times are comparable.

It is approximately 100 miles via US 17 and maybe 25 miles more if you decide to take I95. I don't know for certain, but I'd think rental car options available at either airport would be similar in number. If it is $60 per person extra to fly into Savannah it would be worth it to DH and I to do that and get to HHI faster.

Best wishes :goodvibes

We have flown into each airport. SAV is much closer to HHI than CHS (about 2:20 to 2 1/2 hours to HHI from CHS). It has been around 5 yrs since we flew into SAV (I understand they expanded since then).

I'd easily spend $120 more to fly to Savannah. It is a huge time saver and such a nice little airport.

We are flying in and out of Charleston instead of Savannah b/c of cost difference. I also looked at flying into one and out of another, but it was still a bit of a cost difference. I think for us it was close to $100/pp times 6. So, what we are doing is spending 2 nights in charleston to experience the sights there. If you were interested in seeing Charleston you could do one leg of your trip there and then the price difference would only be $60, otherwise I would probably do Savannah, if you can swing it.

I would pay the $120 and fly into SAV. If it was a bigger savings then I would go with CHS but to me that isn't big enough savings.

Definitely go with SAV. A chunk of that $120. is going to be eaten up by add'l gas costs driving from CHS. But the biggest reason: there's still a lot of construction going on with Hwy. 17 and I personally wouldn't want to deal with the delays. A couple of weeks ago there were shutting down the 1 lane northbound and we passed a looong line of cars waiting. The good news: they have finally finished and opened a new section (by the bridge) and it's so much nicer!

Thanks all! I think you talked me into it. I'd forgotten about that construction. What's the story with it? It doesn't look like much, if anything, has been done since the last time we used Charleston, which was about 3 years ago. What really tipped me over the edge, though, was that Southwest changed their Charleston schedule, so now our flight home would be at 10:30 am, which means leaving the resort at o-dark-thirty. Yech! In Savannah we fly home at 5:30 pm so we can have a lunch of left-overs before leaving for the airport..
