Seriously, asking for a friend. They want to book next Monday for a late summer 2023 cruise. Her baby will not be born until late September/early October this year. How does that work? Do they just do "Unk Last Name" and birthday TBD?

We have done this twice (we were going through fertility treatments and the first time didn't pan out but the second time did). When we made an onboard placeholder, we told the rep we were trying to have a baby and wanted to add a third person to our placeholder. The reservation had our names and MISS BABY TBD [LASTNAME]. (They asked if we wanted to use Miss or Mr. We said we had no idea, LOL. So they just chose MIss.) The second time, they did the same thing with the name and then after our son was born, we called up and added his official name.

Awesome thank you!

I did the same for a WDW trip, booked as BABY LASTNAME with birth date as due date and updated once babe was born.

Yep, we did this as well. They advised that we include DS on the initial reservation rather than adding him later once he was born and we had concrete details like name and DOB because even though there was obviously room in our stateroom for him, the lifeboat spots at the muster station might fill up. If they did we wouldn't have been able to add him later.

Agree and now that you don't get the original booking price (although I'm sure adding an infant isn't much), it is also a concern!

And now they want to do the 7 day Fjords...I'm slightly jealous!

We did the same thing while in the process of adopting. We had not been matched with a birth mother, but I just felt that the baby was going to go on the cruise with us. Our adoption clinician thought I was nuts! Our DD made it by three weeks. She was just over three months old when we cruised with her. (Back in 2010 with different rules.)

Our situation is the same but different. We are looking to adopt and I spoke to our Travel Agent and she said as long as it isn't past the PiF date and the Vessel isn't full he/she can be added.

We got our room on an old discount that does not even exist. Sort of like GTY, but not as restrictive. It was a 10 day Med for only $999.00 per person!!! 😳

As Ronneeaught pointed out above, in addition to space on the ship there also needs to be space at the Muster Station for the particular cabin you're in. Because the total lifeboat space is less than the total number of possible passengers (that is, the total if each room is at its capacity) it is possible that the ship is not full but no more passengers can be added in a section. When the Nursery reopens, it is also possible that the number of babies on the ship will be capped -- I have heard instances in which a family could add an adult to their cabin but not a child, because of the capacity in youth programming.
