I have just today cancelled my Preferred campsite reservation at FW for Feb 7-14, 2021. I hope someone who is looking for those dates can pick it up soon.

The purpose of the trip was to celebrate DD's college graduation this month but she has already picked up a job starting in January so she would have been unable to attend. DW and I were last at FW in October for the DISMeet so I had no real desire to return so soon. I've also cancelled the reserved park days. Tomorrow was my 60-day in advance window opening for ADR's which won't be happening now.

DD had been a College Program Cast Member in Spring 2018 in Housekeeping at Boardwalk and spent nearly every day's off-time in the Disney parks and came to know them very well. But she's stepping into the real world now and the parks will always be there.

From her Cast Member training:

No next trip to WDW on the horizon for me. I can foresee staying at the Fort possibly while travelling to/from South Florida with my popup in the near future with no park days. But we shall see.

Congrats that your daughter got a real job so soon. i am sure the job market is not so great at the moment. I would not want to be graduating at the moment.

Congrats to your daughter, but sad you're missing another Fort trip.

What kind of a job did Christina land?

Congratulations to Christina! I just cancelled our January 2021 trip. WDW and FW will be there for us when things return to closer to normal.

I'm so glad to hear your daughter got a job quickly! My oldest graduates high school this year so I know that family trips will become more difficult. This situation really sucks, doesn't it? I have to talk to my kids and husband about our New Year's trip. We wouldn't be going to the parks and I'm not too sure about resort / bar hopping - I have to research which bars have outdoor areas. Is the bike barn still lending out sports equipment? I think that would be the deal breaker for them. We haven't been to the Fort since last New Years, canceled 2 trips there plus 2 trips to the parks during this whole thing so I'm craving it but it's going to be such a different experience.

Congratulations to you and her! Long road traveled to achieve that goal. So Ed...what are you going to do with all the money you'll save from her moving out and becoming independent?

Thanks Stork. BTW, I hope you don't mind I used your cancellation post from a few weeks ago as a guide for mine (h/t to you).

As to what I'm going to do with the excess cash flow that's been freed up, I'm planning lots of camping trips of course and my calendar is pretty FULL from mid-April to end-of-August. It is a little disconcerting, though, that all these Yankee states (Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania) want FULL payment for their State Park reservations rather than just one night's deposit like my poor lil Alabama state does for its.

I know it should work out in the end but the cash flow going out (and out and out) is new for this year (now that I am retired) and I know in a few months I will have all these trips which have already had their "room" paid for. But as a thrifty nerd it makes me uncomfortable. But I have faith that in the end it will be a wash.

PS - I'm even having to cut my DISMeet reservation in Pigeon Forge a little short to come home and recoup before I head out again. Need a few days at home to rest, recover, and reload between trips, no? ::yes::

Flattered you thought my cancelation post worthy of recycling. No worries.

I have ressie next month at TopSail, a Florida state park and paid full up at booking time last Feb. Not sure if all FL state parks are that way, and the year long wait is concerning. What if we need to adjust or cancel, how hard will that be?

Time at home is more rewarding when returning from camping trips. Camping recharges the soul, returning home recharges the sense of accomplishment. You can't appreciate camping until you're not; as the song goes, you don't know what you got 'til it's gone.

Elementary school teacher
From a former elementary school teacher / principal, congratulations to your daughter. I was a 3rd grade teacher for 11 years before stepping into the principal position at the same school until I retired. I can honestly say that I truly enjoyed every day in the classroom. I coached football at our high school (offensive and defensive line) and so many people asked why I didn't teach at the high school. I told them that until they spend time in an elementary classroom, they would never understand.
Again, congratulations and best of luck to Christina :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
