Just cancelled my January 2021 trip...sad.

We are on the fence. I have to book a flight this week just so I don't loose the year old tickets and then prob cx it to still be able to rebook it at a later date. will we go in january. i don't know. i want to say we will but I doubt it. like i said in another thread, if they don't bring back AP's then we are totally bowing out. It was rough buying an 11 day pas for 4 of us vs the price of a season pass for this january trip. no way i'm buying another set of passes for june if AP's aren't back up for sale yet.

i have zero excitement for the january trip even. zero.

It's been a pretty crappy year. :( We JUST snuck in our trip at the end of January 2020 before things went crazy. Now we aren't going til November of next year. I just don't trust the next 8 months. That being said, we're Canadians. We'd totally go earlier if we didn't have border issues, haha.

I feel your pain. :sad1: This will be only the second time in 48 years that we've missed going to WDW. 1987 when we became parents of twins and now 2020. We are "young" and healthy (thank God) 68 yr olds, but just did not want to take the risk.

I guess that I would have to say.... go BACK, when there is something worth going back TO.

Today? Not the case.

We are DVC booked APR 2021. But we have done so, in a fashion that allows us to cancel, lose about $200 in airfare, no AP loss (NEW APs, good to 2030 redemption).

We refer to this as "defensive booking". Book - but be ready at any time, to BAIL, if there is nothing worth visiting.

We have 125 points that expire 3/31/21. We will most likely book something at OKW in early Feb or so just to use the points.

Lots of people losing lots of points I bet. Too bad there isn’t a little more flexibility.

Add on top of the lessened experience the fact that if I go I have to quarantine for 14 days when I return and it’s tough to get excited about a trip.

We have the last week of Jan first week of Feb booked, wife and myself, was supposed to be kids and grandkids coming and going but no. Flying is the current worry, not doing parks, first time in thirty years, sad.

Same here. We have feb booked with this use year and April with’21 but will prob cancel both and hope for fall if ‘21 or winter of ‘22. Just don’t think things will be safe for us, especially flying.

I really would have loved to book May 2021, but I think things will still be pretty rocky then. So, we're going November 2021.

I’m so sorry. Why did you cancel this early for January? Was it to bank the points?

We have a February trip planned and will likely cancel it. We don’t need to cancel until the 31 dad mark. Fauci said things might get sticky this winter, so it’s better to be safe.

We decided to tentatively book HHI at end of March bc it’s drivable. Is that a no-fly option for you?

Everything is so tentative right now, but at least we have points and we go to Disney regularly!! First world problems! ;)

We canceled our April 2020 and October 2020 trips and are now booked for March 2021...I vacillate between being excited about finally being able to go and being worried that we will need to cancel again. It's a family vacation and most can't quarantine if it's still in effect in March...traveling from NY.

We are most likely cancelling our WDW NYE trip. We have an earlier in December trip which I expect to happen. However now I am saying to myself, “ Will I feel safe when the crowds are more likely to be bigger.” I have already cut the vacation by two nights. The hard part is cancelling that NYE night. Only I can decide if it’s worth a trip for a 5 night stay.

We are booked for the first week in Jan, but I also keep looking at Thanksgiving (There's still availability, it's when we usually go, could get cheap flights, and I'm worried a round 2 lockdown post holidays might ruin the Jan plan.) but then I just get too worried about Holiday crowds and Disney being unprepared.

Hoping for no 2nd wave and January being much slower. I'm confused about how busy it may or may not be based on the marathon. Did they reduce the size (# tickets sold) for the marathon? It appears it's still happening....

I'm starting to fully realize how weird this trip might be. No park hopping, no annual pass, our typical non-park activities (like dinner shows and watching fireworks from resorts or TOTW) don't exist. We are not pool people. We're more atmosphere, fireworks and food people than "ride every ride" people. I'm starting to wonder what the heck we're even going to do, but we want our Disney fix!

Basically, if we're going in a pandemic with a "modified" experience, I at least want low crowds and short wait times.

I had up to November 30 to do the cancellation, but the reality is I'm just not comfortable with the way things are going. I'll be losing 23 banked BCV points, its a pittance to what some have lost. I'd love to be in the parks at reduced capacity, but it's not happening for me. 😥 I hope someone gets their waitlist fulfilled. More points to use next year. Roll on Food and Wine Festival.

Have you thought about trying to rent those 23 banked BCV points? That way, you could at least get something for them.

I'm in Canada - border issues - quarantine when I return, florida doesn't seem to be making any progress, I'm in my sixties with a couple of underlying health conditions. Even if a vaccine is out by then, we won't know how effective it will be. I could bank those points up to Nov 30, but why wait, I made a decision. I'll try for a trip in the fall 2021, though I know it will be crazy with the 50th anniversary, and all of these banked points in the system. You're absolutely right, first world problems. I'm glad I made the decision so I'm not thinking about it every day. More points for next year.

Same reasons for us, except we're not Canadians and do not have border/quarantine issues. Even so, I won't feel safe traveling until at least late next year. The infectious disease experts I trust are still very worried about a fall/winter surge and the effectiveness of vaccines, especially any that are rushed to market yet this year.
