I just bought PSE6 a little over a month ago (maybe 5 weeks) and just found out in the last few days that PSE7 is coming soon. If I had know it was imminent, I would have waited (I was on vacation for nearly 3 weeks and wasn't even using it!). Does Adobe do anything decent with upgrades for recent purchases? This is the only Adobe product I own (I've been use PaintShopPro for years and am just switching over) so I have no idea what their track record is for this type of stuff. Since Corel purchased PSP, they have been awful with this and charge full upgrade price even if you purchase the previous version the day before they suddenly come out with an "upgrade". Most of those "upgrades" have not been worth it!

If it is going to cost me the price of the program again to get PSE7, is it likely to be worth it or should I just stick with learning PSE6?

Thanks for any insight,

I'm a little confused, if the upgrades weren't worth it to you, why buy them..on the other hand..any software I've evr owned, would charge full upgrade price, no matter how recently you purchased the software... you are saving money on the upgrade rather than buying the new full package..:confused3 :confused3

Before Corel got their hands on PSP, the upgrades were always worth it - the program only seemed to get better. Corel marketed their upgrades as major big-deal changes and then after you purchased it, you found that they had added more bloat and very few useful new features. It is because of this that I am looking to move to PSE.

Policy on upgrades varies alot between software companies. Jasc (original developer of PSP) used to have a special really reasonable price if you had just purchased in the last few months before an upgrade. The photo organizing software I use (IDImager) actually guarantees for a full year that if they have a major upgrade you will get it free! When I last bought a PC which was a few months before Vista's release, it came with a "free" upgrade to Vista. Certainly, many other companies do not do this. Since Adobe (and most other companies like this) offer upgrade pricing for switching from a competitors product, I paid the "upgrade" price for PSE6. Now, if I need to switch to PSE7 I will pay a similar price again.

Part of what I am asking is if Adobe is like Corel in that these "upgrades" really aren't that big a deal and are just a way to get customers to keep paying over and over for the same basic program?

I had 5 for almost a year and just installed it. I'm thinking about saving my pennies for photoshop so I can use actions.
