We finally make the jump after 9 trips to WDW and DL in 7 years we decided to buy into DVC :woohoo: . Everyone swears we'll be happy with the decision. With 4 kids (1, 3, 7, 7 (twins)), we figure we'll be going for awile and being right on the monorail will be great for the little ones. Glad to see everyone so happy with DVC. We get our first 300 points (remember I have 4 kids so its no studio or 1BR allowed for us) :grouphug: in February and can start calling for a reservation in the spring.

Looking at October again for Micky's Halloween (I just love it then).

How Long does it get to get the hang of making reservations and borrowing/renting points etc? Seems a little much when you first get to the board.... exciting though

I don't know about renting since I don't do it. But it doesn't take long to get the hang of making reservations and it is a very enjoyable experience, I think.

owned about 10 years before rented. it was fine.

congratulation and welcome home!!!

boy 300 points! :cool1: :thumbsup2

Did you break the 300 points into smaller contracts? I would reccommend 5 x 60 points, you would be able to sell or give 1 contract per child.

I didn't think of breaking them up - guess I'll have to figure something out for deeding. Good idea though...

Yea definitely call your guide tomorrow and ask to break them up as you purchased prior to the 100 point minimum. If they will not do it ask for a manager. These smaller contracts are going to be worth more $$$ in case you need to sell or decide that you would like to sell 1 contract to purchase a California or Hawaii add on etc....much easier to sell the smaller contracts.

Yes, that's the one DIS tip I wish I knew prior to buying. We purchased 225 and I wish I had broken it into 160 and 65. Even though I don't think we'll ever sell, you never know what might come up in the next 50 years... It would be nice to have the option to only sell a portion and hang onto some points if that were ever to be the case... I'm going to break my 100 pt VGC add on into 50 and 50 just because I can, even though if I had to part with some points I'd probable hang onto those and sell my SSR points (I'm on the West Coast)

If we are buying new today 160 at BLT can I ask to break it up to 100 and 60? I am thinking no since we are not existing members. Anyone know?

yes you can - after Jan 15 you can't.

so definitely call today.

after today the minimum buy in is 200 points not 160.

Thanks

We were assured three days ago by our guide that Disney will not raise the minimum to 200 points.

My understanding has always been that no you cannot if you are not members. Your first contract will have to be 160. For example if you were buying 200 you could do 160 and 40.

If you were existing members then you could break up the 160. The only time I've read of someone breaking up an initial contract was if they were existing members and buying a new UY.
