Hello....this is my first post but I have watched and read for a while. I need some advice from anyone who can help.

I was just on the Disney Wonder Cruise and bought 200 points for BLT. With the cruise they had some incentives.
-A bonus year of points 200
-Your points up front.....so I start with 400 points.
-$300 closing costs
-And then you can pick a free cruise on the dream or buy at a discounted rate. I bought my 200 points at $108 per point for a total of $21,600.

BUT I could still buy 320 points at $106 per point for a total of $33,920

CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF I CAN GET A BETTER DEAL???? Thanks so much.

That's a slightly better deal than others have reported getting without being on the cruise -- current reports seem to be of a $10 incentive for 200 points. You got $12. So that's $400. Your closing costs are standard.

The extra 200 points is a nice perk, but to value it, it depends on a few things. When is your use year? What is the status of those 200 points? Can they be banked? When do they expire? Are they BLT points or "developer points"?

I think you got a good deal. If you still have the opportunity, I would split that 200 points into two 100 point contracts. Smaller contracts are easier to sell and fetch a higher price per point. You never know if you will need or want to sell in the future.

The 200 bonus points can be banked.

Use year starts April 1st

Yes they are BLT points....they basically make it a 51 year contract. You get points from last year.

My only problem is I would have to rework original contract which I was told I had 10 days to do. Then I could buy the 320 points at the $14 off rate. I understand what you are saying for resale values. I appreciate all your help and advice!

We did the same deal on the Wonder this past week (two days ago to be exact). The 2009 points have no dues associated with them. Since we're not returning this year, we asked for an August use year. We can bank the 2009 points until August 2011 and we receive another 200 points on 8/1/2010 for a total of 400 to be used by 8/1/2011. That won't be hard.

I'm trying to figure out why the Animal Kingdom Lodge resale values are so low compared to Bay Lake Tower. Should we cancel the contract and buy AKL resale instead?

Anyone?

Since your UY is Apr 1 you are still in the 2009 UY. Not really free pts but your current pts. They tell you it is last years pts to make it sound more enticing.

Did you get the free cruise AND the discount or a choice?

Basically sounds like the current promotion from the webcast. $12 discount is what is currently offer for that allotment of pts. In current promotion you can take the cruise OR take the discount. If you got both then that is the only difference. No better deal out there right now.

Congrats

No we could either pick cruise or discount on points....after crunching for us we figured the discount on points to be better.

As far as the points we did not pay any maintenance fees on last years bonus points. So right now we have 400 points (200x2) until we upgrade and have 640 points (320x2).

Sounds like the current promotion then. Only decision you need to make is HOW many pts you want then! :rotfl:

You wouldn't pay the maintenance fees as they are based on a calander year not UY. In 2010 you will pay a pro-rated portion from the date of closing until 12/31/2010.

AKL has higher maintance fees and the location is farther from the parks, on the out skirts of Disney. We just bought at BLT 160 points direct from dvc in Feb and decided when we got home to buy another 160 point contract on the resale market for SSR since we love the tree houses and wanted the 11 month booking advantage AND it was 27.00 per point less with all of 2009 and 2010 points. It was about a 4000.00 savings even with closing cost. We will alternate our points 1 year Tree houses, next year BLT that way we get the best of both worlds that works for us. But those are the places we know we want to stay at.

If your existing contract through dvc is in fact AKL then by all means look into and investigate resale! BLT is not really good resale right now and with the incentives is actually in some cases cheaper thru dvc. Do your homework which it looks like you are doing because resale can save you money but you also will not have access to your points for about 2 months. We signed contract for SSR resale on 3/1 passed thru ROFR on 3/23 and just received closing documents today with an estimated closing of 4/24 and points will show up in our account about a week after that. It is a waiting game but worth the savings.

As I have been reading and agree with the "experts" who have been posting for sometime now, BUY WHERE YOU WANT TO STAY! :cool1:

Good luck and enjoy

If you do decide to buy 320 points I would have them break it in to more than one contract just in case sometime down the road you need to sell.

I just checked to be sure, but the recent webcast offered $14 off for 250 or more points. However, the cruise is not included in the deal. You have to forfeit the point discount to get the cruise. It sounds like you have a good deal.

I would request the 320 points be split into more than one contract, like 100, 100, 50, and 70 (or four 80 point contracts). That way if you want to sell some of your points you could. Also smaller contracts sale quickly on the resale market.

Good luck.

GREAT suggestion! I caught my agent just in time!! I just bought 320 points. I had it broken into two 160 point contracts. With the intention of leaving each of my boys a contract when I have had my fill of this time share!

Congratulations and what a good idea with the split.
